From Hell With Love

photo:
a propos:
REPRESSMarcel Vogel has decided to celebrate the first five years of his edit-heavy Lumberjacks In Hell imprint in the only way he knows how: by putting together a sumptuous double-pack stuffed with fresh new material. In keeping with the way the label has developed in recent times, the eight tracks blend the boundaries between original productions, illicit remixes and straight re-edits. There's a celebratory, life-affirming feel throughout, from the rubbery bass, D-Train synths and rolling house grooves of Giovanni Damico's "The Break Down", to the bluesy deep house brilliance of Borrowed Identity's "Queens Bridge". Highlights are plentiful elsewhere, too, from the hustlin' electrofunk-meets-disco of Vogel's own "Come On", to the killer synth solos and fuzzy bits of Tim Jules' thrilling "Slap Beat".

Orlandivo

Back In Stock !!!Reissue of the classic 1977 Orlandivo album on Kindred Spirits, big TIP! Composer, singer and percussionist Orlann Divo moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1946 where he started out as a promising percussionist in the band of Ed Lincoln. The 1960’s had been of great importance for the artistic development of Orlann Divo as he starts to release some of his solo works ‘Key of the Succes’ (1962) and ‘Samba in Parallel’ (1965). In 1977 he released this self-titled work on Copacobana records. The album mainly remains in the Bossa Nova realm, while at the time of the release the Bossa Nova era was almost at its end. More than a decade ago, this sound reached its peak in popularity, but by the late 70’s the Brasilian disco and rare groove/funk sound was taking over leaving little room for more ‘traditional’ sounding albums. Unfortunately the album gained little notice, but was revived 20 years later by diggers around the world. To many record collectors and Brazilian music lovers around the globe this remains a true classic from the vaults of Brasilian Bossa and downtempo Samba. Now 25 years after its original release Kindred Spirits presents the official reissue of the 1977 self-titled album ‘Orlandivo’. This beautiful bossa / downtempo samba like album contains the sought after tracks such as ‘Onde Anda O Meu Amor’ and ‘Tamanco No Samba’. Apart from Orlandivo, other artists such as João Donato and Azymuth’s drummer Ivan Conti also deliver a solid contribution to the tracks, making this obscure Brasilian classic a must have for Brasilian music lovers! On Retinae

photo:
a propos:
80s Japanese pop GOLD - both versions of 'On Retinae' on 12" for the first time. Talk about an end of night finisher..oooh eee.. full info: Music From Memory’s third 12” release features two versions of the track ‘On Retinae’ by the Japanese pop duo Dip In The Pool. With support from friend Yasuaki Shimizu (AKA Mariah) on clarinet, the track is pure end of the night pop perfection and something of a lost classic.Originally appearing on Dip In The Pool’s 1989 LP of the same name, ‘On Retinae’ was also pressed in Hong Kong as a 50 copies only promo 12” release, the existence of which remained unknown even to the band themselves until recently. True to that original promo release Music From Memory have chosen to present both the ‘West’ (English Version) and ‘East’ (Japanese Version) again in 12” format.Blending a unique sense of music and style, Dip In The Pool created a refined sense of dreamy minimal pop formed by the productions of Tatsjui Kimura and the ethereal, floating vocals of Miyako Koda. Something of a fashion icon and a much-photographed model in Japan, Miyako is also an actress and has appeared in a number of Japanese feature films.Since their debut LP on the UK’s Rough Trade label in 1985, the group gained something of a cult following and have continued to record and perfom live, with this 12” coming ahead of a much-deserved compilation of the groups work which is to be released by Warner Brothers digitally and on CD later this year.

Super Lover EP

auteur:

a propos:
The wonderful Black Ops sub label from the SLEAZYBEATS crew continues...For the 9th and penultimate release in the series, the Sleazy Beats gang welcomes Bristol's Admin (Future Boogie, Banoffee Pies) aboard the Black Ops ship, which ventures beyond the trusted beatdown waters the label has been sailing since its inception in 2012 in search of exciting new pastures. For his 'Super Lover EP', Admin commandeered an obscure record collection and cut up a cheeky trio of summery, sample-heavy disco delights that are rough around the edges but groovy like a drive-in movie. The Black Ops dudes decided to leave the crackle, hum and imperfections intact as an ode to good old-fashioned art of sampling, a tip of the hat to the format's charm ('life has surface noise mate') and a polite middle finger to the non-descript clinical compressed deep House that seems to be so in vogue now.As always, this is a limited, vinyl only release. It will not be repressed and will not be released digitally. Not now, not ever.

Walk Alone

photo:
a propos:
The subject of Music From Memory’s latest compilation release is the elusive and mysterious Philadelphian musician Napoleon Cherry (aka Cool Waters). Oddball funk biz TIP! In the late 80’s and early 90’s Cherry privately released two LP’s and an EP which form the basis of this retrospective, alongside an unreleased cut ‘When You Had The Chance’ which was recently released on 12” in collaboration with US label PPU.Recorded with a very DIY aesthetic and a strong presence of gospel and RnB, Cherry’s unique take on soul and funk music, reflect a rawness that stands in contrast to the slick, over-produced soul of that era. With appearances by jazz musicians such as the late celebrated saxophonist Byard Lancaster, who coincidentally played with MFM’s previous compilation subject Vito Ricci, Napoleon’s music seems to defy any clear categorisation. From cocktail jazz funk to intergalactic synth workouts to melancholy bedroom soul, Napoleon’s use of synths and drum computers, though perhaps unknowingly, also seem to strongly echo elements of early house music.

Healin Feelin

Melbourne’s got it (goin’ on)! Returning back to the city we hauled in yet another producer. M5K fixes us up with three edgy House tracks together with smooth, synthesized melodies and a wicked kick.M5K has built up quite the resume, with releases on Melbourne recordlabels. Not just some new kid on the block, eh! Exactly the reason we’re excited to have him featured on Dopeness Galore. The A side will get the party started. ‘We Got It (Goin’ On)’ reels you in with the synthesized boogie and sci-fi sound effects the Melbourne sound is known for. The track steadily climaxes to a high-energy war of sounds, making you want to get on down by laying the track down with a double kick. Now, get ready for the flip side! We kept the artwork black, because this release just feels dirty. Just listen to how grimy the bass gets and let Shawty tell you why. The final and title track is layered with repeating chords over a groovy baseline. M5K really breaks it down with ‘Healin Feelin’.Sounds like Mike Dunn from Melbourne, if you like the edge of MD X-press you shouldn’t miss this!

Café Romantica

photo:
a propos:
A collaborative project from Melbourne's Andras Fox and Oscar Key Sung.....The label say "Like it’s predecessor, 'Café Romantica' started out as raw cassette tape demos, this collaborative project blends Andras Fox’ deep house productions with the sensual vocals of Oscar S. Thorn. Mixing phrases or straight cuts from experimental jam's with lush rhythm tracks, Café Romantica is a surprising mix of dance floor material alongside slow 80s funk grooves.'Café Romantica' is a smoothly urgent house plea, with Oscar’s yearning vocals soothed by Andras’ warm, lightfooted production. For fans of that early 90’s house vibe by Larry Heard, Frankie Knuckels and Kenny Dixon jr."
