Opolopo Reworks

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Version Galore is a newly found label, deeply rooted into the music culture. We are bringing you the selected reworks / re-edits from the top producers in the game, showing lots of respect and care for the original, but elevating it's spirit and taking it somewhere else. It's all about the dialogue of cultures and the idealistic desire to pass the music legacy on! No half-measures, played-out tunes, lazy cuts, or boring "808-kick boosting" biz!On the first release of the label we are delighted to bring you the chosen cuts from the man that needs no introduction - Opolopo. He knows a thing or two about making a personal version of a track that can easily overshadow the original, and we guess that's the case with the two cuts he prepared for us on this records. Things escalate fast. On the A-side you will find originally a midtempo mild jam "Go Get It", which is turned by Opolopo into an effectively-upbeat stomper that will inject true feeling and groove in any house or disco set alike. It's one of those rare occasions when a soulful tune turns out to be super dance-floor efficient no matter what! The B-side is all about the raw and emotional funky madness of "American Promise". It's infectious groove, pinpointed with growling sub-bass is just devastating. Epithets are irrelevant here - just play it loud, but with caution! "Version Galore - play some more!"

Jacques Renault Edits

photo:
a propos:
NYC stalwart and international superstar Jacques Renault joins Brooklyn cohorts for a 4 track EP of superior edit stylings! On the A side "Cold Blooded" sources a classic, focusing on a hypnotic and rhythmic pattern for a solid 6 minutes before exploding into exuberant soul, while "Get Down" is a loose and greasy funk stomper. On the flip, "Dream Machine" is disco sampled perfection, chopped and sliced with evident love. Finally, "That Sound" takes us home with its thunderous drums, slap bass, and a tasteful peppering of soulful vocals.

Adesse Versions Edits

photo:
a propos:
Adesse Versions brings his cut and paste ethos to Razor-N-Tape with a varied pair of edit heaters. On this stellar 12", RNT takes it back to their early format of one track per side, and these two cuts can certainly carry it.“Bumpin' NYC" is an anthemic latenite boogie cut, with a hypnotic bass line and hometown shoutout, while "Sistem" flips an afrobeat sample into a dark and groovy club track. Vibes for days!

Reverend P Edits

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
For his first outing on RNT, Parisian soul-slinger Reverend P brings his signature reverent touch to a tasty edit 4 pack. The A-side comes in hot with the well-worn but ever-funky "Feel The Heat" then finishes sweet with "Strong Enuff," reworking an often overlooked soul burner. On the flip we have the crooning and swooning late-nite vibes of "The Way You Get Me" followed by "Soul Fire," a clever bit of edit cheekiness that's sure to turn some heads and move thembootays!

Al-Tone Edits

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
RNT welcomes dusty digger extraordinaires Al-Tone, with a superlative set of rare edit gold! Known for their eponymous rework series, Al-Tone (aka Al Bumz and Tone B. Nimble) come hot out of the gate with "Feelin' Irie" a gritty Afro boogie stomper, before moving into the uptempo soul of "Simone Manuel." Flip the disc over for the guitar and clavinet-driven groove of "Groovin," and then they take us home with the Theo-esque looped sax and falsetto gallup of "Wishes." From obscurity to eternity in 4 masterful reworks!Pressed on 180g Vinyl.

In Praise Of Mitochondria

photo:
a propos:
Oddball Japanese electro-fueled vocoder funk with occasional raps from the 80s, including unreleased material... .Japanese Electro original, Minoru Hoodoo Fushimi, self-released four albums. Two vinyl LPs and two CDs between 1985 and 1992. Melbourne`s Left Ear Records have selected twelve tracks, for a double vinyl retrospective. 10 tracks from Minoru`s four albums and a further two unreleased tracks from the archives.Minoru set out to combine his love of all things Funk with traditional instruments and song from his homeland. He uses shamisen on Thanatopsis. Where Parliament`s Flashlight, George Clinton`s Atomic Dog, ride with Osamu Kitajima`s Masterless Samurai. Shakuhachi on Mizuko No Tamashii Hyakumademo. Nohdashi puts koto with a Jimmy Castor riff. All set to popping and locking beats.Minoru`s vocals switch between raps about cellular metabolism and haemoglobin, Soul croon and vocoder. On Shinz-San he adds Metal guitar to vintage Sugarhill. And he goes crazy with his sampler. Scratching in cats, frogs, babies, laughter, giggles, traffic jams, failing ignitions, opera singers, and amorous sighs. Furarete mixes elephant roars and Go-Go. Creating unique avant grooves that share something with Tackhead`s ON-U Sound System, Savant`s tape experiments, and fellow countrymen EP-4.Co-compiled by Left Ear Records and Jerome Qpchan

Sizzlin Hot

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Official re-issue of Bermudian disco record! 1000 copies initial pressing. In 1981, Bermudian band Paradise recorded ‘Sizzlin’ Hot’, a flawless album of original material in the disco, boogie and AOR style.Producer, writer and pianist Grant Williams formed several bands before becoming the fourth member of Paradise, alongside bassist Wincy Woolridge, drummer Ronnie Lopes and singer June Ventzos - whose voice commands the album. For five years, the group regularly performed in hotels before hitting the local Z.B.M. Studios to record their sole album.‘Sizzlin Hot’ is inspired by the sound of Earth, Wind & Fire. The album delivers several blistering tracks that could have been huge club anthems if the record had been promoted outside of Bermuda.Since Bermuda is a fairly remote island, it’s no wonder that Paradise remains virtually unknown to this day. It is all the more reason why this album stands-out and has universal appeal… though it was only ever intended as a “local thing”, as Grant Williams says.

Fast Forward

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Music From Memory return with their penultimate EP of 2017, this time with four tracks drawn from Virgil ‘Vincent’ Work Jnr’s little-known cassette only debut from 1987, ‘Fast Forward’. Following on from a previous compilation of works taken from one of Virgil’s collaborative projects as the duo ‘Workdub’, this album under simply ‘Vincent’, reflects a more stripped back and raw musical approach from the St. Louis musician.Experimenting with rhythm programming, midi, layering, sequencing, digital effects and sound synthesis the ‘Fast Forward’ sessions grew out of a series of late night jams with Vincent’s brother Scott who was then living in Kansas. With nothing planned in advance and no written music involved in the final recording sessions, the songs that would form ‘Fast Forward’ very much evolved out of improvisation lending a unique often spatial and searching quality to the tracks.Virgil’s equipment at the time very much lead the experimentation with the album being produced on a Yamaha DX7 Synthesizer, Korg DW-8000 Synthesizer, Yamaha RX-15 Drum Machine, Korg SQD-1 Sequencer and a sequential TOM Drum machine. As Virgil himself explains the title of the album in fact came about because it felt “as if I had fast forwarded to a different sound”.Bedroom produced, the Fast Forward album had an initial run of only 100 copies, of which none were commercially available and were simply sent to friends and family along with a handful mailed out to local radio stations in his hometown of St Louis. Although the album received a good response from local radio DJs and music magazines, the album sadly never gained enough momentum or demand for a further run of copies.Fast forward to 2017, exactly thirty years are their production, and Music From Memory are delighted to be able to finally make Vincent’s music commercially available again."
