Dead End

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Stuck in the depths of a dark alley, blocked by yet another breeze, hitting a stone wall, road sign ahead: Dead End. Impasse. “Cul-de-sac”.Hip‐hop. The original, some would say, official music of the late 20th Century Bronx. Some say it has endured it’s fair share of distractions, detractors and defectors. Some say it has murdered itself, having been abandoned by its so‐called best men, those who have gone off in other directions, or who have, simply, just beat‐retired. Yet, there are plenty of Soldier Monks still out there, prepared to sweat it out in the Temple of Machinery and Mics. Low Cut honored this cause four years ago, with his MPC crafted minimalist version of NY Minute and he’s back to ring the bells and unsheathe the samples! The starting point of Dead End’s production remains the 90’s boom-bap, but the will to carry it even further brings it to its destination. By decorating it with rich samples flushed out after digging through vinyls pressed several decades ago, it is guided by a compass pointing deposits to the East. With sound quality inherited from a fastidious composition and mix works, using inspiration rather than just being a copycat, Dead End celebrates it without setting it up as a museum piece.Picturing the beatmaker stuck in the depths of a dark alley, ended with a brick wall, is easy. But far from isolated in his Parisian basement, Low Cut has rung phones in New York, Baltimore and Detroit, rounding up the faithful. He magnetized the hidden but sharp forces, and gained attendance of legends. The casting of Dead End : Ruste Juxx & Nutso, Dirt Platoon, Guilty Simpson, Torae, Rasheed Chappell and the stainless Masta Ace, among other beat crushers. Also starring DJ Duke, Nix’on, Topic and Ordoeuvre with their DMC titles crates, for a deep beatfight on bars scarified of scratches.Heavy atmosphere, martial beats and street soul, Dead End is also the final episode of the projects initiated by Low Cut, based on the model of a producer inviting various MCs.He will then replace his turntable needles, refresh his sample banks, and settle the BPMs of his productions on more abstract frequencies.

Baleka

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
In the mid-70s, musician and songwriter Phil Arosa fled Southern Rhodesia's apartheid (now Zimbabwe) to settle in the Netherlands and pursue his musical career under more mundane skies. Alongside his partner Marga, he started the band Zimba which played for ten years in clubs around the country. During those years, Baleka was the only studio recorded song and was released in 1983. This record went unnoticed at the time but this minimal and powerful mix of African rhythms with a New Wave voice and an irresistible mbira gimmick deserved better. We are happy to revive this track and have asked our London friends from The Comet Is Coming and Blackjoy (Siwo) from Paris to revisit this piece. The results are two very different versions of Baleka but definitely carved for the dancefloors.Listen : https://soundcloud.com/nyami-nyami-records

Magnetic

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Once Upon a time… Four House Headz from UK, US and Europe were separated. But one day, their fate crossed the same road. As they shared the same vision of House Music and Harmony. They worked hard with some magical & musical beans….And one day, a piece of wax appeared which was called “Magnetic”. Indeed, this wax has something definitely magnetic. The Melodies, the vocal hooks, the atmosphere ? Definitely! And yet it remained Underground until the magnetic power of this wax revealed!. Since that day, International DJ’s like : Amine Edge & Dance, Sam Divine, Ben Mono, Mike Millrain or Dave Meyer, to name a few, play and support that magnetic sound... Today, this magnetic strength is revealed to you! (... and They had many children.)

Untamed Love

photo:
a propos:
Peter Hunnigale aka Mr Honeyvibes was born in South London on December 12th, 1960. Peter Hunnigale was to develop into one of Britain's most formidable reggae ‘Lovers Rock’ artist of our time. It was clear at a tender age Peter's main interest was in music and being born of Jamaican parentage, he was exposed and influenced by music of West Indian culture.Untamed Love is an UFO in Peter Hunnigale’s career, recorded at Omega studio (London) and originally released on the Cosmic label in 1986. Some people have no words to describe it. You can call it brit-boogie, rare funk, sick jam, musical bomb, or god jam, whatever it’s a typical mid 80's tune with a rhythmic background sound that is captivating and memorable, thanks to heavyweight synth and awesome vocals. The original 12’’ vinyl record is still very hard to find and expensive nowadays. If you are about to discover this song, make sure you are sit down when you listen to it because this song will blow you down “hey girl I like the way you smile”.Growing up in Britain meant that Peter Hunnigale was also open to other genres of music and with seeing the popular acts of the day perform on television and hearing the songs on the radio Peter knew what he wanted to be. Peter is also a great musician and did live work with reggae legends such as The Chosen Few, The Pioneers, B.B. Seaton and many others, while earning the respect of their peers as a competent bassist and qualified engineer. He won a Best Newcomer award at the Celebrity Awards in 1987, and won Best British Reggae Album at the British Reggae Industry Awards the same year.

Afro Disco Beat Disco Afro Reedit Series Vol 2

photo:
a propos:
In 1976, Fela Anikulapo Kuti & Afrika 70 released a total of 8 albums including the hit Zombie. At the time of their height, Tony Allen, Fela's drummer, decided to release a follow-up album to Jealousy. Progress was the result of a series of studio sessions, featuring Fela himself with a tenor solo on the title-track. The b-side contains the dancefloor filler “Afro Disco Beat”. Today, Comet proudly presents the 2nd release of the Tony Allen & Africa 70 (Disco Afro Series): featuring remastered original versions of “Afro Disco Beat” and remixes by Africaine 808 & Mexican Institute of Sound.
