Everybody Wants To

photo:
a propos:
On a fishing trip two years ago, the two main guys behind Africaine 808: D Leyers and Nomad - went to a tackle shop to buy some creepy crawlies (saltwater worms), not knowing that they were about to make a life changing discovery. In front of the shop a blind man was jammming on a little electronic organ, stomping his feet, singing, growling and basically making a scene. The boys were quite impressed with the fella, who introduced himself as 'Blind Double D'. They offered to bring him home and record him. He turned the offer down, but offered instead that they could record him on the spot in front of the tackle shop - if they bought him a bottle of good Bourbon. He explained that he would never set foot into a studio again in his life: he was sick of music production and the music industry in general, and that he just wanted this bottle of Bourbon and to be left alone. The boys got him the bottle, and recorded Blind D.D. on the spot with a tape recorder they borrowed from the tackle shop. Unfortunately, the tape was stored in one of the tackle boxes over the trip, and some of the creepy crawlies crawled into the tape and stank it all up. This added some extra funk to the recording. With Dirk and Nomad's usual studio trickery and production skills, they created the two versions of this very very funky, creepy, stanky track. We hope you'll enjoy it as much as we do. This record is dedicated to Blind D.D, wherever he is...

I Thought You Wanted To Dance

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Did somebody say AOTN 12". For our first large format singe we bring you the unreleased full length version of the original Symbol 8 classic "I thought you wanted to dance". The track was featured on American Band Stand in the late 70's but failed to make it for the usual reasons (luck, management and distribution) but that is no marker of quality, these tracks are disco and modern soul royalty . Charlie Adams versatile vocal flipping into falsetto with ease while the band holds the solid groove is a special thing. On the flip-side is later and very different version of "I thought you wanted to dance plus a personal favourite and long time spin of my own "call me". Essential as always.

Sexual Healing

photo:
a propos:
Gold coloured vinyl in deluxe pantone gold sleeve. Limited to 2000 units.First time on 12” since the original 2007 press. Finally back on wax, the Hot 8 Brass Band’s legendary cover of Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing gets a special release for Record Store Day 2016. Pressed on gold coloured vinyl and housed in a deluxe pantone gold sleeve, this special package features the original edit of Sexual Healing alongside fresh new edits for the dancefloor. This stone-cold classic has been a fixture in radio, club and festival sets across the world for almost a decade and only continues to grow in popularity.Alongside the original, this release features new reworks from Ibibio Sound Machine, Maddslinky (AKA Zed Bias), Werkha, J-Felix and more – the diverse package sees the New Orleans greats celebrating their classic track on an excitingly fresh note. With the band on the form of their lives, rocking packed venues with the sort of visceral, body-shaking live performance that only they can give, these eclectic new remixes sees their inimitable energy spreading ever further, crossing even more genre lines and reaching into every corner of club-land.One of a very few brass bands who pour as much charisma, training and talent into their vocals as their horn playing, their sound packs an almighty connective power that remains uniquely Hot 8 no matter what influences they draw on. October 2015’s ‘Vicennial’ LP and sell-out UK/Ireland tour have gained the band heavy and continuing support, from The Sunday Times, Independent On Sunday, Songlines and Metro to the world’s top radio and club DJs.After the success of putting the Hot 8 Brass Band back on vinyl for their Vicennial release, we are really excited to get Hot 8 Brass Band’s classic cover of Sexual Healing back on 12”. We’re pressing 2000 units of this special 12” on gold coloured vinyl and it’s housed in a matte sleeve with gold pantone print. Junk Rudder

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
After his turn in Conga Radio, Roberto makes his debut on Good Timin' with four-tracks of classy bangers. Leading the charge is the shuffling "Junk Rudder," a piece of flanged out club gear that has the grace and grit to take any party to "that next level." Meanwhile, "Atomic" is a not-quite peak-hour stomper, while "Oceanic" is the sound of Goa Trance if the drug of choice was high-end coconut water. Finally, "Twilight" sounds like something Bruce Hornsby might cook up if he got arrested and could only talk to his lawyer through a broken Moog.

Are You For Real

photo:
a propos:
Restock , few copiesPreviously unreleased Dayton Ohio Boogie Funk from the label that brought you the lost Aurra tapes from 1984. Webster Station was a demo session recorded for Warner Bros. in 1979. The demo was rejected for not being ’mainstream’ enough for their label and the tape remained in an A&R office for over 3 decades. Family Groove has faithfully restored the original tape for release on limited edition vinyl. 300 copies only.
