photo:
a propos:
Celebrating 30 years in the game for Z Records with a series of 12” vinyl EP’s containing some of the most sought-after remixes from the esteemed Z back catalogue. Part 1 sees highly desired cuts from Joey Negro, The Sunburst Band, Patrice Rushen, Akabu, Andre Lodemann, Hot Toddy, Sean McCabe and Atjazz.First up, Joey Negro’s incredible Extended Disco Mix of Patrice Rushen - Haven't You Heard, housed on the ‘Remixed With Love By Joey Negro (Part A)’ EP currently only attainable if you’re willing to part with £100+. Andre Lodemann’s remix of Akabu - Another World takes the second spot, a jazzy, synth laden house groover from the 2010 Summer Sampler EP that goes for up to £40 on the second-hand market. On the flip side, Crazy P’s Hot Toddy provides the goods with a driving, funk remix of The Sunburst Band - Taste The Groove. Previously found on the limited edition 2013 RSD remix EP, it’s been trading hands for close to three figures. Finally, a Joey Negro edit of Atjazz’s remix of Sean McCabe - Reach Out ft. Hannah Khemoh, a vocal house shuffler from Attack The Dancefloor Volume Eight that’s been going for £60 on Discogs. All in all, this is an absolute must for any discerning digger and the perfect way to kick start the 30th anniversary celebrations.

Remixed With Love by Joey Negro – Winter 2020 Sampler

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
In 1978 Patrick Adams and Leroy Burgess released one of the all time classic underground disco albums under the alias Phreek. Joey Negro takes 2 songs from the album and using the original 24 track mastertape gives them both much extended and reworked versions. “Big Phreek” was a crazy, off kilter uptempo jam that was popular in Chicago at clubs like the Warehouse, with its chanting vocals and odd octave bassline under Adams' trademark soloing synth-work. JN strips things back a fair deal to make a very playable energetic leftfield disco cut. “Good Thing” is more soulful disco featuring plenty of previously unheard Burgess vocals and rich strings that weren’t on the original release. This new JN version clocks in at almost 13 mins.

Period Works Vol.2

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Z Records return with Bristol born, Sweden based wizard Crackazat at the helm. Four trademark jazzy, disco house bombs all instantly catchy in their own unique way. Luscious chords and intricate, uplifting, jazz-infused synthwork permeate every corner of this E.P – an effortless element that has become a Crackazat calling card.First up, ‘Fly Away’ hits the ground running mixing exhilarating clavinet chords, joyous vocal chants and summertime guitar riffs with a killer pumping bassline - pure joy housed in those grooves. Next up, ‘Crystal Eyes’ takes a hazier but no less euphoric approach - spiritual keys blend with an expressive, soulful bass and sustained chords as the sun sets with this funked out gem.Take to the flip for a double dose of late-night jams. ‘I’ll Be There’ melds crunching claps and snare hits with a bouncing bassline and classic ‘90s, piano house stabs. Add in a healthy dose of filtered female vocals and you’ve got a hands in the air anthem of epic proportions. Rounding off the E.P, ‘Some Day’ goes in big with beaming piano chords and a garage tinged shuffling beat whilst spiritual vocals build and build for an eyes closed peak time breakdown.

Remixed With Love By Joey Negro Vol Three Part Three

photo:
a propos:
Remixed With Love Volume 3 is the latest edition of what has become the industry-leading disco remix series. No one knows this era of music better than Dave Lee, who under his Joey Negro alias once again turns his impeccable hand to some of the best-loved records ever committed to wax.“I can clearly remember in the 80s having fantasies about being a remixer and dreaming of tweaking my favourite songs and re-releasing them. I really never thought it would happen. The days when I receive the parts for some of these classic recordings are literally a dream come true.” – Dave Lee Remixed With Love Volume 3 has been a real labour of love, and a release several years in the making. With original parts for some of these classics hard to find, and with major labels rightly protective of songs created by legendary artists, it is a testament to both the perseverance of Lee and the esteem in which he is held as a remixer that the project was ever completed. Luckily for us though, here we are: Remixed With Love Volume 3 is done, dusted and ready to deliver a healthy dose of joy to us all. As with previous volumes, Lee has put his own inimitable spin on more than a dozen seminal records, with The Fatback Band, Patti LaBelle, Evelyn “Champagne” King, Odyssey and many more vying for attention across a stunning three part gatefold double vinyl, double CD and digital release. As you’d expect from an artist of Lee’s calibre, he’s taken the task extremely seriously. “Some songs I’ve wanted to get access to the multi for ages turn out to be far less straight forward than I imagined. You know it’s a great track, but unlocking the key to doing a worthwhile new version doesn’t always come easy. To make more of a feature of one element sometimes means there has to be less of something else. There are many decisions to be made, lived with, revised, maybe reversed until finally your gut tells you it’s about right.” There are very few producers with either the confident or ability to take on records of this heritage, but Dave Lee has once again proved that when it comes to sensitive re-workings of disco staples, he’s in a league of his own.Released back in 2016, Remixed With Love Volume 2 included exclusive reworks of classic soul and disco records all from the original master tapes, with the collection going on to be Traxsource’s best-selling of 2016, reaching top 30 on iTunes album chart, and also being named DJ Mag’s compilation of the year. All the remixes here are 100% new and exclusive to the compilation, making Remixed With Love Volume 3 an essential purchase for any serious disco devotee. “Judging from comments and suggestions I get from people online thankfully there is still a large appetite for re-workings of 70/80s material, something you can’t bank on when you embark on the project. I hope you enjoy the music.”
