It's been nearly three years since Letherette announced their arrival with a widely acclaimed debut album on Ninja Tune. Here, they return to Coldcut's legendary stable for the first time since. The duo begins in confident fashion, delivering a hazy, jazzy take on dusty deep house ("Rayon"), before going deeper into UK deep house/classic US house fusion with the similarly wavy and quietly positive "Look No More". They're often at their best when including post-dubstep production techniques within their garage-influenced deep house tracks, and that's exactly what's delivered on "Without You". Best of all, though, is toasty, floor-friendly closer "Don't Think About Me", which layers soulful vocal samples, twinkly samples and fluttering chords atop a deliciously warm groove.

Graft Vol. 1

photo:
a propos:
The Organ Grinder mints his new record label with a bulked up reissue of a gem from his back catalogue that will make DJs - and dancers - very happy. Far from throwaway, this is music rooted in the '90s US garage sound of Kerri Chandler, Masters at Work and early Todd Edwards, with the intensity of true deep house and the light rhythmic touch of UKG. 'Obsession' originally came out almost 5 years ago, but there's simplicity in its skittering rhythm and a mantra of rising minor-note synth hits that keep it burning into the dancefloor. 'X Rated' hits like its inverted counterpart, with a more heavily weighted drum groove and garage stabs that spiral down your spine. 'Physicality' opens the EP with cunningly-sampled soul music, sung notes of passion belted out over a tense background of keys and Rhodes chords, weaving an atmosphere that only comes out of expertly woven harmony.

"Serge born in Russia came to the USA in the late 80s, got heavily in hiphop and digging in the crates for breaks and loops as well as production under dj supreme one moniker. He worked with such industry's heavyweights as Masta Ace, Edo G, Guru and many more. Serge is an avid vinyl collector of soul, funk, jazz, disco, boogie. Loads of good music is to come from Serge Gamesbourg."

Deep Basics EP

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Pocket Money returns for their third release and they are back with what could easily be their strongest output yet.Just hitting the ripe old age of one, and a couple of releases in, this label has found its stride nicely and starting to turn heads in the scene.Taking the spotlight for the Deep Basics EP is the producer Keepin Soul, who may only have a handful of releases to his name but puts himself in the spotlight with this deep and meaningful pocket money release. This is a beautifully dusty sounding record, it opens up doing exactly what it says on the tin - Deep Basics and doing them well. This A1 is all about hypnotic grooves undulating against the drive of crisp, warm and exciting percussive grooves.I Can't Stop picks the energy up slightly on the record, but is still treated to the same lavish warmth and tradition of the opening track, as the vocal swirls and dreamily drifts off into the night, its hard not to fall in love with this track.Flip the record and your greeted with Sun's Gonna Rise, a faster paced track laced with a groovy filtered riff. It's clear that Keepin' Soul has a fantastic skill of switching arrangements to keep everything in exactly the right place. The B2 brings us to the party piece of the record. Love is… breaks out the vocals, organs, splashy hats and heads for the dance floor, fantastic energy in amongst a beautifully constructed EP. If your looking for an authentic experience that will draw you in this is a record you should not miss.

O/Her

photo:
a propos:
Atjazz Record Company is pleased to welcome back prolific artist and dapper gent Fred Everything. From Canada to the UK, this skillful and ever-present producer brings over 20 years of talent and experience to bear on this exciting new release. We delve into the offering firstly with the titular track: O. A soft and muted start slowly builds up into a fizzy melodic vibe that is undercut with a tasty bass riff. As the track drives on, the harmonies continue to build until they crescendo with a dreamy high-end hook juxtaposed with stippled sour characters. Then Mr ARCo. himself, Atjazz, enters the fray with the Galaxy Aart Remix. Staccato rhythms and active bass notes combine with engaging pops of synth to further illustrate Atjazz's mastering of his craft. We follow this with Her, a meaty beats and bass orgy that effortlessly builds into a shimmering and crystalline cut. This track perfectly showcases Fred's commitment to quality legitimate music and you will not be disappointed! We conclude with the shorter and sharper Devil In The Dub remix where only the lightest of tweaks and touches is applied, but this brings a fresh and compelling sound to an already impressive track.

Attack The Dancefloor Volume Nine

photo:
a propos:
ATTD Vol 9 is a banger, fetauring remixes from FOUK, Nachtbraker & Crackazat alongside JN himself.A1. 'I Can Feel Your Body Rock' has shades of Gary's Gang, Tony Lee and Softhouse Co, though none of those are sampled or stolen from. The JN Extended Mix combines boogie bass, 80s electronics, chopped vocals and old school piano for an energetic stormer which has a lot more panache than most. It's danceable but its also full of musicality and made with a lot of love.A2 Dutch duo Daniel Leseman & Hans Peeman have only been producing as Fouk since 2014 with their debut release for Outplay Records immediately catching the attention of Boiler Room. An acclaimed remix of Lay-Far for Sweden's Local Talk Records and their Kill Frenzy EP for Detroit Swindle's Heist imprint plus more remixes for the likes of Kraak & Smaak and Razor-n-Tape cemented the duo as ones to watch for the future. Now they deliver a remix for Z Records taking the title track from The Sunburst Band's classic 1998 debut album and giving the bassline driven funk cut an energetic jazzy 4/4 makeover.B1 Sean's 'It's Time' album was universally well received in the house community, and rightly so, it was a strong debut featuring an array of talented vocalist and strong songs. For this EP the tracky 90's style 'Holding On' gets reworked by Crackazat who keeps the original vibe adding Smack Productions style keys and his trademark jazzy, warm production to Sean's original. Crackazat has come to the attention of dj's including Disclosure, Detroit Swindle and Homework through his releases on Futureboogie and more recently Sweden's Local Talk where he released his latest album 'Crescendo'.B2. Is exclusive to this Release and features a remix from the mighty Nachtbraker rounding off the package in his usual style.

Global Warming

auteur:

a propos:
Here at Bearfunk we have been pretty busy as of late... it was a casual visit to Geneva just like any other. We had just finished a buzzing set and soon after we found ourselves talking to a five bearded academic types. It turns out they were a bunch of theoretical physicists out on a cosmologists night out. They work them hard at CERN and that day the Large Hadron Collector had been a real beast... rebooting five times before lunch. They were pissed off and needed a new challenge. We offered them a job on the spot and they promptly moved to our London HQ working on a wage of tea, vinyl and Nandos. We set them a challenge... Build us a time machine! They started soaking up all those Bearfunk-groove-boson particles and..., you know what? They did it!! A Time machine of our own.Our first task, jump back in time to 1985 and retrieve us something really cool. Set controls to the Manhattan office to Celluloid Records. Fresh from their hit with Herbie Hancocks "Rockit", spearheading rap with Fab Five Freddys "Change The Beat" and Afrika Bambata stompers the legendary label is preparing to release the debut album from NYC-Paris emigre Lord Funk. The album is prepped and ready to go with a release date. It's a cornucopia of mid 80s sounds. Disco, Hip Hop, Rare Groove, Deep Boogie and foot-tapping funk. We manage to hijack a shipment of the records on the way from the plant to the record distributors and bring them back to 2016. We are ecstatic but Celluloid Records are furious. Celluloid never gets to release the record and its existence slips into music legend. We however find ourselves in the 2016 future sitting on a stack of LPs which represent one cool sound from 1985. Surely just what time machines were invented for.Alas this story doesn't have a happy ending. As we were beaming the last batch of master tapes... the ones containing the Larry Levan remix of Bad Day and the Jean-Michel Basquiat artwork for the album sleeve... things went terribly wrong. A stray chicken bone fell into the spacetime-continuum-field-generator and our beloved time machine imploded, never to be seen again. The remaining mixes and artwork were lost too. However it's not all bad as we at least had the batch of vinyl of the Global Warming LPs. Which we proudly present you, new sleeve and all, for sale in 2016.https://soundcloud.com/lord-funk/global-warming-teazzza-lord
