I Want Your Love

auteur:

Proto-house classic 'Nightgruv' gets a re-release and includes a longer unreleased edit! James Mason is mostly known for his late 70's album 'Rhythm Of Life', which is a soul-jazz classic. Soon after music trends shifted to (electronic) disco and James' music became out of fashion, leaving 'Rhythm Of Life' to be the only album he released to date. The early early 80′s saw him have a few studio sessions from which more electronic output like Wuf Ticket’s ‘The Key (Prelude Records) resulted. James also produced various disco acts like Disco 3, Earl Flint and Brenda Bayton. However, most of his early 80s studio sessions have remained unreleased until today. ‘Nightgruv’, which was recorded in 1984, did eventually get a release when it was picked up 12 years later (!) by a small UK indie label and was again reissued in 2000 by Soul Brother. Both pressings are still highly sought after and go for a lot of money on Discogs, mostly to do with the timeless nature of this prototype house wonder, which sounds like a recording Larry Heard never made. A magically seductive groove, recorded at a time when house was still in its infant years. Not only is this release offering a remastered version of the original, it also includes an unreleased edit which stretches the original to a cool 6 minutes. The B-side features the epic 11 minute original version of 'I Want Your Love', a soul classic. Comes with original artwork!

Measure Pleasure

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
L.A. based funkateer ''Moon B" is bringing his hazy cosmic funk-jams to the Pulp imprint. 5 cuts of heavy synth laden otherworldly machine funk! With remixes by the Swede 'Golden Ivy' and briton ' Fudge Fingas' , the 5th installment of the PULP series is promising to be a melodious trip down funk avenue. The title track ''Measure Pleasure'' has that buldging funk bass lying underneath some spacey pads and a great rhythm track. Golden Ivy's version of the title track is emphasizing on the rhythm even more by adding bursting FX and obese kickdrums. Moon B's Nada Clouds (A3) is a positive yet exotic journey which should be excellent for summer gig's on rooftops anywhere in the world. For the B1 Moon B continues with the percussion laden ''PV Hills'', this bit has those signature chord switches and vibe changes, that are creating a very melancholic atmosphere throughout.British master of all things melodic ''Fudge Fingas'' flips the original completely, making it more streamlined with just a hint more power.

Mother Confessor

photo:
a propos:
Some proper jazz funk here. Ron Trent executive produced EP that reminds of bands like Atmosfear. With its debut EP on the Future Vision label, is the band created by artist, writer and producer Jared Hines in collaboration with executive producers Ron Trent and Jonesy.Inspired by the Jazz Funk elements of UK outfit Atmosfear and the alternative Disco sounds of Dinosaur L, presented here on this EP are five tracks that embrace the energy of “live” dance music. Reminiscent of the early 80’s Boogie sound, A Band Called Flash will surely capture the attention of the more eclectic, global dance floor.

Limitless & Free

photo:
a propos:
Gerry Rooney (Black Cock) and Joel Martin (Quiet Village) return with two strong cuts on new label Love Shot Records! Opener "El Dorado" is a curious affair, taking loops from a long-forgotten, disco-era Spanish dance record and turning it into a rolling, late night chugger. Arguably even better is "Limitless & Free", which cuts up and rearranges a suitably obscure chunk of stoner funk-rock. Wisely, they emphasize the low-slung groove, rising strings and swirling synthesizers, occasionally utilizing select sections of the original's sleazy, come-to-bed vocal.

Shot Out

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
BACK IN STOCKIt all started in a local club in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where Mojo and Spider played in their first group together, Zodiac, in the mid 70s. Spider played lead guitar, and Mojo held the brass section.Sam "Spider" Rice was also the music director for a vocal group called "La Pinch" which included vocalist Gary Pinchom (Pinch). As the 80s approached La Pinch was looking for a new sound. After relocating to the East Coast "The Pinch" was born.New York and Jersey was quite a change. Spider wanted to write a song to address the drug abuse he was seeing all around him. "Shot Out was a street term we used to describe someone with an excessive drug habit", recalls Spider. "We built a voice box from a horn driver, a couple of switches, and some tubing".They had some money stashed from a Zodiac gig and picked up a Prophet 5 and Roland drum machine. After recording the track in 1981, the song was mastered at the legendary Power Plant in NYC. That would prove to be the major limitation for the release, since they were out of money now and could only afford to press 200 copies of the 7".Distributed in Texas and locally on the East Coast, "Shot Out" would be the only release from The Pinch... UNTIL NOW! Re-mastered for the first time on 12" vinyl, this 80s funk masterpiece is finally back on wax.
