Fleeting Wax is a new label by Basel DJs Mehmet Aslan and Miajica from Alma Negra, whose fame has spread far and beyond Switzerland. The EP contains three striking edits from the reaches of what could be considered world disco in the widest sense of the word. It's fair to say that this is the embodiment of a now-familiar Basel sound - all sultry playfulness, Turkish delights and sun-drenched pop-not-pop. The first is Tai's "Schlager Edit", built on a combo of hypnotic Marimba-dreaming and that irresistibly sugary voice. Istanbul digger DJ Fattish immerses himself into the singer-songwriter wealth of his country. And label co-owner Miajica weds Italian cantautore passion to the dancefloor. With it's first release, Fleeting Wax clearly lives up to it's romantic promise: Unearthing forgotten relics and infusing sleeping beautys with new life.

After The Very Polish and The Very Soviet Cut-Outs, Zambon continues his endless trip around Eastern Europe with another excursion.Now it's time to follow him and dive deep into dance music of former Yugoslavia.The very first volume of the brand new The Very Yugo Cut-Outs exposes a little known scene of editors based around the cult club 20/44 in Belgrade, Serbia. A duo of DJs and producers called Kompleks is responsible for three edits here, while the label boss Zambon supplies the last one.Tracks range from poppy new wave of Jakarta group from Serbia, through psychedelic rock of Seid Memic aka Vajta from Bosnia, Yugo boogie of Kim Band from Serbia/Macedonia and sleazy synthpop of Videosex group from Slovenia.The unique vibe and amazing skills of Yugoslavian musicians from the rich and unfortunately still little known scene are guaranteed to move both you and your local dancefloor.

Weston's curatorial crusade continues as he unearths more criminally overlooked/under-pressed rarities from the golden ages; "Losing You" comes from Courtial and Errol Knowles outstanding 1976 soul jazz album. The most straight up soul joint from the album, it's an instant sweat-fest with real guts behind both the vocals and instrumentation. Flip for the jazz funk whirlwind that is "Getting Down". Utterly magnificent, sublimely soulful survey of the Gospel Roots label, subsidiary of the mighty TK Records at the height of the Miami Sound.A&R was co-ordinated by Gospel legends Ira Tucker — from the Dixie Hummingbirds — and Ralph Bass, veteran producer with Savoy, King and Chess. The label was run by Timmy Thomas, who had recently smashed with Why Can’t We Live Together, for another TK spin-off, Glades. Operations were overseen by Henry Stone himself, unlikely King of Disco, who had recorded a young Ray Charles, and pushed forward James Brown. They drew in artists from all over the US, from St. Louis, Columbus, Memphis, Brooklyn, Cabrini Green in Chicago: unknowns like Camille Doughty, reluctant to jeopardise her job at GM (‘Generous Motors’) in Detroit, and huge-sellers like the revered Brooklyn All Stars, who started out on Peacock in 1958.Choral belters, deep ballads, harmony quartets, epic city-blues, gritty funk, powerhouse female soul… Killer-diller Philly like a scorching version of Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes’ Wake Up Everybody; and Jean Austin’s raw Spirit Free, co-written by Ronnie Dyson, produced by Jesse James at Future Gold. Just one year after the release of Brazilian Disco Boogie Sounds’ compilation, Favorite Recordings presents the 2nd edition of its acclaimed series.At the control this time is French DJ and producer Charles Maurice, digging again in his collection and travelling to Brazil for the occasion in order to find some local hidden treasures. The result comes as nine additional obscure hits from the Brazilian Funk-Boogie-Disco scene during the years of 1977 to 1984.At that time musicians and arrangers such as Lincoln Olivetti, Robson Jorge, and Oberdan Magalhães along with Banda Black Rio were responsible for the new music scene. They’d dominated the studios with sophisticated and original arrangements that have forever transformed Brazilian musical. This music, at that point, had gained a new style and great international respect that has remained still.Brazilian Disco Boogie Sounds Vol.2 pays tribute to this great era, coming out in a deluxe vinyl edition with old-school tip-on jacket, including notes and original artworks.
