Ivan Ave & MNDSGN follow up their critically acclaimed "Low Jams" EP with a full length release, which also marks Ivan Ave's Solo LP Debut in 2016 with Jakarta Records.Ivan signed with Berlin based Jakarta Records in 2014 to release "Low Jams", a five track phenomenon produced by Stones Throw artist MNDSGN.The EP was described by Okayplayer.com as "an enveloping head nodder that peppers irresistible grooves with vivid double-entendres and exists in the same elusive strata of true school perfection occupied by Nas' debut Illmatic LP."Ivan Ave's relationship with music started in the CD shelves of his older sisters. Today the Norwegian MC makes songs clearly shaped by sneaking into 90s bedrooms to play albums by The Fugees and Janet Jackson. In the last few years he has put out several EPs, all deeply rooted in the RnB and Hip-Hop of his childhood, perhaps even more the 70s jazz and soul that inspired it.In 2016 this Oslo-to-LA collaboration delivers again. This time a full Ivan Ave solo LP, produced entirely by Mndsgn. Picking up where "Low Jams" left off, but also moving into new realms, the "Helping Hands" LP will be released on February 12. The music is a mixture of jazz, mod sounds and psych-beat, where Brugnolini adapts his jazz leanings to the new musical fashions of the day: soul, R&B and psychedelia. This soundtrack was from ever almost officially out of print, languishing up to now in the deepest reaches of obscurity, much sought-after both for the elusive BEAT Records 7”, published at the time to promote the two songs in the film, but even more so for the original LP, a real ghost-album which never appeared anywhere or anytime. The Four Flies issue for the first time reconstructs this incredible soundtrack in its entirety, thanks to a meticulous restoration work obtained from two different master tapes kept in the personal archives of Brugnolini himself and BEAT Records. Pocket Money returns for their third release and they are back with what could easily be their strongest output yet.Just hitting the ripe old age of one, and a couple of releases in, this label has found its stride nicely and starting to turn heads in the scene.Taking the spotlight for the Deep Basics EP is the producer Keepin Soul, who may only have a handful of releases to his name but puts himself in the spotlight with this deep and meaningful pocket money release.This is a beautifully dusty sounding record, it opens up doing exactly what it says on the tin - Deep Basics and doing them well.This A1 is all about hypnotic grooves undulating against the drive of crisp, warm and exciting percussive grooves.I Can't Stop picks the energy up slightly on the record, but is still treated to the same lavish warmth and tradition of the opening track, as the vocal swirls and dreamily drifts off into the night, its hard not to fall in love with this track.Flip the record and your greeted with Sun's Gonna Rise, a faster paced track laced with a groovy filtered riff. It's clear that Keepin' Soul has a fantastic skill of switching arrangements to keep everything in exactly the right place.The B2 brings us to the party piece of the record. Love is… breaks out the vocals, organs, splashy hats and heads for the dance floor, fantastic energy in amongst a beautifully constructed EP. With "House Warming" Andy Vaz returns with his 3rd full lenght album on his own Yore Imprint. Due to Andy's half Indian roots, he is lucky enough to owe a Beach House just outside of Mangaluru, South India in the State of Karnataka. - where most parts of the Album were written over a period of 6 months. In this totally isolated, entirely tourist free hidden spot, which had become Andy's second home over the past years, he found himself away from the usual routines of western life, to find himself in a position to simply sit down and create. The result is "House Warming".As the Title suggest's - think of house, sure and no doubt- but here on this album, thought all the way thru from beginning to end. The result then is House Music in all it's aspects: The Soulful, the deep and the raw or if you want - Deep House, Acid House, Garage/Vocal House - the joints range from downtempo, elektro and even hip hop beats. Oldschool you may think? Maybe in spirit, as entirely produced with analogue synths & the roland series from 808, 909, 505, 606 to the original 303, but used in a modern studio environment. Andy Vaz is someone who has been around long enough to know how to programme his very personal idea's into the music - without denying influences such as Detroit, Chicago and New Jersey, to create something that goes further than a simple reflection of the past.
