Jump Over The Hill

a propos:
Paolo Mantini is back on Rebirth with the new composition ‘Jump Over The Hill’. Musician, poli-intrumentalist Paolo studied double bass at the Conservatory of Brescia (Italy) and attended Electronic Music Composition at the Berklee College of Music. He is also behind Clockbeats and he boasts a worldwide network of professionals within the Music Industry.Paolo’s debut single in 2017, ’Next Generation’, remixed by Pépé Bradock, has been played and appreciated worldwide, with enthusiastic support. ‘Jump Over The Hill’ is another sublime piece of music, exploring rooted disco and funk, with a contemporary dancefloor swing, perfect to really get a party going. A killer mix of rolling drums, wobbling (rubber) bass line, jazzy chords and infectious piano lines. We are very happy to have Dego and Kaidi aka 2000black on this project. They produce a timeless remix with their unique futuristic beats and a mix of jazz, soul and electronic vibes. Glenn Astro delivers a delightful modern jazz-synth-funk influenced version, and, included here, is also the sought after Shield re-edit of ‘Next Generation’ featuring a live drum played by Francisco Mora, known for his collaboration with Innerzone Orchestra and The Detroit Experiment, heavily supported by Gilles Peterson.

Farmarama

photo:
a propos:
Returning after a long-lasting hiatus is no mean feat - how to stay relevant, to plug the gap and come back as strong as where things were left off. A Man Called Adam’s return however, is as emphatic as it is endearing. Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones are back with a brand new album of melodic, emotional, pop-not-pop tracks, bringing fresh layers of feeling, from warmth and passion, to sentimentality and sorrow.Displaying a wealth of knowledge gained through two lifetimes spent immersed in music, Farmarama showcases a myriad of styles and richness in arrangements. Moving from soulful slow jams to lo-fi disco, Balearic house to dub, post-rock electronica and art-house ambience, there are glistening horizons and windswept beaches conjured up at every turn.Take to the likes of ‘Mountains & Waterfalls’, ‘Farmarama’ and ‘Michael’ and hear dancefloor, disco tinges that marry live percussion, sultry Rhodes and hearty basslines, oozing emotion. But venture deeper to uncover a pensive, yet equally expressive side to the record through tracks like ‘Higher Powers’ and ‘Top Of The Lake’. Take the later as an example, a neo-classical slice of magical ambience, that wouldn’t be out of place soundtracking sweeping views of shimmering scenery. Or ‘Spots Of Time’, beginning as a frenetic, glitched out piece of electronica, before opening into a brooding breakbeat journey.Full of vintage warmth, analogue synths and intricate textures, Rodgers, Jones and new collaborator, Paul Smith, combine experimental touches with an undeniable catchiness, balancing electronic elements, with acoustic sparkles. In harmony with this, the contemplative, poetic verses, that considers life as a hi-definition, Westworld-like simulation, a Farmarama, and disco as a way of being, meld and morph a conceptual narrative that tugs on the heartstrings of life.Farmarama, then, isn’t your archetypal album. It’s an emotionally charged, intelligent and enlightening body of work that’s Balearic to the bone.

Period Works Vol.2

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Z Records return with Bristol born, Sweden based wizard Crackazat at the helm. Four trademark jazzy, disco house bombs all instantly catchy in their own unique way. Luscious chords and intricate, uplifting, jazz-infused synthwork permeate every corner of this E.P – an effortless element that has become a Crackazat calling card.First up, ‘Fly Away’ hits the ground running mixing exhilarating clavinet chords, joyous vocal chants and summertime guitar riffs with a killer pumping bassline - pure joy housed in those grooves. Next up, ‘Crystal Eyes’ takes a hazier but no less euphoric approach - spiritual keys blend with an expressive, soulful bass and sustained chords as the sun sets with this funked out gem.Take to the flip for a double dose of late-night jams. ‘I’ll Be There’ melds crunching claps and snare hits with a bouncing bassline and classic ‘90s, piano house stabs. Add in a healthy dose of filtered female vocals and you’ve got a hands in the air anthem of epic proportions. Rounding off the E.P, ‘Some Day’ goes in big with beaming piano chords and a garage tinged shuffling beat whilst spiritual vocals build and build for an eyes closed peak time breakdown.

“Growing up in the 80’s opened doors to the imagination. Like many of us, I watched a lot of music videos just when cable television was on the rise. It introduced me to a new way of storytelling – and because of that, I’ve always liked the idea of cinematic concepts and visual movement.” Ron Trent’s 30+ year oeuvre has encompassed many genres of dance music with a signature, cinematic sound – organic, powerful, and emotive. His new EP WARM treads surprising territories, which to the listener may encompass unexpected influences, while maintaining that sense of space and narrative.Balearic opener On A Journey feels equal parts Cluster and Yo La Tengo, with cosmic guitars and elastic bass entwining around a strutting drum line, while closer Exhale is a slow, heavy number with New Age and soft rock overtones, pairing natural percussion with subdued bass and deep, emotive guitar. Night Ride has the most familiar sound to listeners – those piano lines, synths, chord progressions, and earthy vocal refrains and percussion – sounding like a long lost production finally seeing the light of day.Listeners may wonder “This is Ron Trent?” – and upcoming works are bound to also provoke this question; works that are dreamed up and created by one of the most unique and important figures in dance music. Whatever direction Ron Trent may take, what he makes will always be something special.

House Of Riviera Sampler EP

photo:
a propos:
Ahead of its forthcoming compilation House Of Riviera, Mona Musique releases a sampler EP that contains three tracks selected by label manager Nick V, taken from the golden age of Italian House Music, two of which are exclusive to the EP.Side A is “I Have Got It” by Ricky Montanari and Davide Ruberto under the alias Riviera Traxx, a moniker shared with various other Riviera producers. Released in 1997, this is the only track that is out of the 1991/1993 time scale that the compilation focuses on, standing alone thanks to its tough hypnotic drum beat and diva vocal stabs that are very reminiscent of the Junior Vasquez NY Sound Factory era. This was initially featured on Riviera Traxx 4 in 1997, the fourth and final release of the cult “Riviera Traxx” series on legendary Italian label Irma records. On the B side are two cuts that are typical of the deep and emotional vibe of classic Riviera House productions of the early 90s. Firstly Ivan Iacobucci, Fabrizio Cini and Nicola Dragani deliver “Tribal Love” under the name of Anxious. Originally released in 1992 this was the B side cut of the Saxample EP, the first release of Hole records a label run by Ivan Iacobucci that enjoyed over 30 releases over the 10 following years. Subway Ground Master complete the release with the superb “Queensway” taken from their only ever release in 1992 on Calypso, a sub-label of Irma records

Colombia 26a

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Widely revered French DJ and producer, Thomas Arroyo aka Laroye has released music exploring a variety of different genres from broken beat on the early days of MCDE and Faces Records, through to funk and boogie with QWESTLIFE on Midnight Riot, Black Riot and ISM Records and beyond. His creativity extends to a number of side projects, like Soul Rüma (with Andre Espeut) and experimental modular jams and atmospheric blues with his own project The Tom Laroye Experiment. His next release on Tiff's Joints has already received the seal of approval from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Alexander Nut, Volcov and more. The A1, 'Colombia 26a', sets pace for the release with heavy Afro-Latin percussion, a thick bassline and the type of dexterous musicality the label is steadily becoming known for. 'The Trickster' is built around an infectiously squelchy keys part, bolstered by a bouncing bassline, the track culminates in a soaring lead melody and ridiculous synth solo. 'Espiritú' is more downtempo and spacey. Kicking off with a relentlessly driving and hypnotic polyrhythm, and complete with an uplifting choral arrangement, seriously trippy lapsteel guitar (?!) and a mysterious guiding voice.
