BACK IN STOCK !!!!3 reworks from Antipodean DJ and Producer, Frank Booker.First up is the monster reworking of King Sunny Ade's afro biggie Synchro System, originally released in 1983 and taken from the album of the same name.Things are turned into a mid tempo 4/4 house shuffler with a killer groove and dope arrangement. The guitar lines, horn riffs and vocal hooks will have you gripped and holding on for dear life, but the real winner here is the groove that underpins the whole shebang which just glides along and takes you with it for a highly enjoyable ride.......This will be causing all sorts of commotion on dancefloors near you soon, you have been warned !On the flip we have Frank's take on Fela Kuti's Egbe Mi O. Again, a low slung 4/4 house groove sits under this Fela classic....All sorts of Afro goodness are diced up (including the ace Ginger Baker percussion) and lovingly strung back together turning this into an instant mid-tempo house classic..Rounding things off is a cheeky cut n paste track, People Must Jam named after the Sydney based Disco party. It sits somewhere between P-Funk, Roller Skating Jam Disco and House, an achingly infectious filtered groove teases and then teases some more sealing this fine 3 tracker off with a winning smile.

Orlandivo

Back In Stock !!!Reissue of the classic 1977 Orlandivo album on Kindred Spirits, big TIP! Composer, singer and percussionist Orlann Divo moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1946 where he started out as a promising percussionist in the band of Ed Lincoln. The 1960’s had been of great importance for the artistic development of Orlann Divo as he starts to release some of his solo works ‘Key of the Succes’ (1962) and ‘Samba in Parallel’ (1965). In 1977 he released this self-titled work on Copacobana records. The album mainly remains in the Bossa Nova realm, while at the time of the release the Bossa Nova era was almost at its end. More than a decade ago, this sound reached its peak in popularity, but by the late 70’s the Brasilian disco and rare groove/funk sound was taking over leaving little room for more ‘traditional’ sounding albums. Unfortunately the album gained little notice, but was revived 20 years later by diggers around the world. To many record collectors and Brazilian music lovers around the globe this remains a true classic from the vaults of Brasilian Bossa and downtempo Samba. Now 25 years after its original release Kindred Spirits presents the official reissue of the 1977 self-titled album ‘Orlandivo’. This beautiful bossa / downtempo samba like album contains the sought after tracks such as ‘Onde Anda O Meu Amor’ and ‘Tamanco No Samba’. Apart from Orlandivo, other artists such as João Donato and Azymuth’s drummer Ivan Conti also deliver a solid contribution to the tracks, making this obscure Brasilian classic a must have for Brasilian music lovers! Cold Fact

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
It's one of the lost classics of the '60s, a psychedelic masterpiece drenched in colour and inspired by life, love, poverty, rebellion. The album is Cold Fact, and what's more intriguing is that its maker - a shadowy figure known as Rodriguez - was, for many years, lost too. A decade ago, he was rediscovered working as a menial day laborer in Detroit, Michigan. He was unaware that his defining album had become not only a cult classic, but for the people of South Africa, a beacon of revolution.Rodriguez recorded Cold Fact - his debut album - in 1969, and released it in March 1970. It's crushingly good stuff, filled with tales of bad drugs, lost love, and itchy-footed songs about life in late '60s inner-city America. 'Gun sales are soaring/Housewives find life boring/Divorce the only answer/Smoking causes cancer,' says the Dylan-esque Establishment Blues. But the album sank without trace, thanks, in part, to some of Rodriguez's more idiosyncratic behavior, like performing at an industry showcase with his back to the audience throughout. When the follow-up, 1972's Coming From Reality, also sold poorly, Rodriguez called an end to his recording career. He'd never even played a proper gig. And he got on with life. Over the years, he turned his hand to local politics, gaining a degree in philosophy, factory work and eventually, hard labour. Now, Light In The Attic is set to commit Cold Fact and Coming From Reality for an entire new audience, who can finally find out why - halfway across the world - Rodriguez is spoken of in the same reverent tones as The Doors, Love and Jimi Hendrix.
