Firewalker EP

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Razor-N-Tape bring out the big guns for their remix package of the Los Angeles Afro-Latino funk band Jungle Fire.JKriv’s remix of 'Firewalker' channels the original live instrumentation into a bombastic, DJ-friendly workout, while Boston-born/Medellin-based producer Bosq steps up to tackle 'Village Hustle' bringing his unique blend of rhythmic flavours to this melting pot of zesty goodness. This diverse 12 Inch also boasts the first remix and release by the newly-reunited Black Science Orchestra in 15 years! Original founding members Ashley Beedle and Rob Mello take on 'Culebro' and transform it into an pulsating Afrobeat groover. Bringing the infectious bass to the foreground behind a shuffling rhythm layered with guitar and horn samples, BSO turn out a serious heater of a remix and dub, worthy of their triumphant return!

Wonderworld

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
After the success of Nickodemus' Wonderworld compilation album, we've decided to press a limited edition double 7" featuring 4 favorites off the compilation that have never seen the light of day on wax. First up is the rolling dancefloor cut "Los Tarantos" from Nickodemus' "Moon People" album, followed by Los Angeles producer Yukicito's uptempo reversioning of "Mirage". Tal M Klein's absolutely stomping remix of "N'Dini" featuring Ismael Kouyate on vocals starts the D side, while Nickodemus and Brian J (Pimps of Joytime)'s "Wanted Man" gets a skanking treatment by Nickodemus to round out the package.

Icarus (Record Store Day 2017)

photo:
a propos:
For Record Store Day 2017 Razor-N-Tape presents "Icarus," an original song by Lovebirds, with remixes from Tall Black Guy, Moods, and JKriv in a striking double 7" package.Giving the shine to their 45 series for this year's Record Store Day, RNT welcomes back Lovebirds aka Sebastian Doering with a slice of chilled-out analog soul. Although primarily known for his nu-disco and house productions, Lovebirds is a seasoned hand at all things deep, and Icarus shows the smoky late-nite side of Basti's skilled production style. An all-original tune, Icarus layers jazzy vintage electric pianos over restrained but head-nodding percussion, with Galliano's soulful vocal soaring above it all. The ever consistent Tall Black Guy delivers a 90's-esque boom-bapper of a mix, with an added verse from 80's Babies for good measure. Moods works the track into a slo-mo stomper on his mix, complete with stuttering synth bass and driving percussion. And rounding out the package is RNT's JKriv, with a beachy stripped-down retro-boogie remix perfect for those warm-weather months to come. Each mix gets its own side in this double 7" pack, with stunning full color artwork, making it a truly special package perfect for both collectors and DJs alike.

You're A Melody

photo:
a propos:
Melodies International (Sam Shepherd / Floating Points reissue label) reissue three of the most desired records from the 'modern soul' scene.Privately recorded in the Detroit area between '73 and '78, and scarcely distributed since, the rare 'Aged In Harmony' 7"s have become highly sought after and much revered by soul enthusiasts around the world. The unique vibrations emanating from these very special records have resonated at the heart of the Melodies label since it's conception, originally prompting the birth of the internationally acclaimed 'You're A Melody' party and forever inspiring generations of soul collectors to dig that little bit deeper. All originally written, arranged and produced by Arnold Moore, the six recordings bring together Strings, Vocals, Guitars, Synths, Horns and Drums for the perfect marriage of textures, each track contributing it's own individual energy to the warming aura which surrounds the whole collection. There’s something about these compositions that draws you closer to anyone in your vicinity - trust me.After lovingly remastering these gems in conjunction with their creator, Melodies are proud to present the masterpieces together as a set for the very first time, accompanied by the second edition of the label's very own Melozine, which features an exclusive interview with Arnold himself, amongst much, much more...

Give Me One More Chance

photo:
a propos:
The Year Was 1972 And The Paths Of A Young Songwriter And A Record Label Owner Were Destined To Cross Paths. After Spending A Couple Of Years At Curtis Mayfield'S Curtom Records In His Hometown Of Chicago, Ron Grace Ventured To The Northern Suburb Of Waukegan, Illinois. After Recording Projects At Plynth Studios In Libertyville, Studio Owner Tom Izzo Intoduced Ron Grace To Morris "Ronnie" Moore, Owner Of The Tra-Mor Record Label. The Two Instantly Messed And Grace Produced A Single On Tra-Mor'S Lone Srtist At The Time, Ernest Jones. That Session Resulted In "I Can'T Live Without You" B/W "Broken Dreams". The Record Made A Bit Of Local Noise And Subsequently Became A "Northern Soul" Collectable In The U.K. After Making Grace A Partner At Tra-Mor, Moore Wanted To Expnd His Artist Roster. Grace Then Called On His Curtom Colleague, Cliff Curry Of The Notations. Cliff Proceeded To Connect Them With Group That He Had Often Worked With -The Procedures.Consisting Of Fred Escobar, Billy Sims, Robert Smith, And Anthony Mcdaniels, The First Release Of The Procedures Was A Tune Co-Writen By Fred Escobar And Brad Bobo-"Magic Mirror". The Arrangement Was Done By Chicago Legend Tom Washington(Tom Tom '84). Backed With The Instrumental Track, The Record Was Barely Noticed. For The Second Release In 1975, Ron Grace Offered A Une He'D Written And Cut On Himself A Year Earlier. His And Fred'S Voices Were Close Enough That It Stayed In The Original Key. "Give Me One More Chance" Would Be The Procedures Next Single, Backed With A Revamped "Magic Mirror". At This Time, The Procedures Themselves Were Revamped, With The Addition Of Walter Jones (Five Crowns: Notations) Replacing Anthony Mcdaniels. Tom Tom'S Arrangements Were Brilliant. The Sessions Were Cut At Gary Hedden'S Hedden Est Studios In Nearby Schaumburg. The Session Musicians Were Comprised Of Who'S Who Of Chicago Studio Players. Included Were The Likes Of Phil Upchurch, John Bishop, Bernard Reed, Quinton Joseph, Murray Watson, Sol Bobroy, Etc. -Veterans Of Many Brunswick, Chess And Curtom Recording Sessions.Alas, A Lack Of Distribution And Promotion This Record Hidden In Darkness, But This Kay-Dee Release Brings It Into Thee Light For A New Generation That Values Music Of A Bygone Era With New Mixes From Kenny Dope From The Original Multi Track Masters.
