For our first release of 2017 RNT welcomes HADE! Best known for his work on Local Talk and Basic Fingers, the Cologne native delivers a symmetrical 2 sides of disco edit barnstormers and downtempo head-nodders.From the beefy kick drum thump of Say What You Wanna Say and My Thang, to the obscure yet memorable sample sources of Jeep Cherokee XJ and Range Rover HSE, this is one to get the party shaking!

Beer Machine EP

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Newcomer Cody Currie looks to Better Listen Records to host his sophomore EP after lighting things up with his debut on Pusic late in 2016.The effort is stacked with deep disco stylings similar to that of sample + synth maestros Brame & Hamo and Fouk. It's an exquisitely layered effort from the London kid, one which will please the intellect and dancefloor demand equally.

Two & Three

photo:
a propos:
WotNot are proud to unveil another new exciting artist, songwriter/producer William Florelle, who follows in the footsteps of previous debutantes like K15 (who features here), Glenn Astro, Deft and many other now established (or quickly establishing) artists. The Will Flo project aims to deliver unique collaborations with each output, evolving to suit the combined inspiration of William and his collaborators. While he names a staggering variety of musical styles among his influences, this release takes the form of a highly swung, left-field R&B, with jazz and afro-beat influences. Think 22a with more pronounced R&B flavours. The EP washes Lua's beautiful delicate but expressive vocals over distorted jazz and soul samples like fragments of dreams remembered. As with a dream there is a mix of the unsettling with the profoundly beautiful; As The Sun Sets opens with bumpy, muddy 4x4, before reaching out into a sunny, optimistic chorus. The vocals become increasingly scattered as the release progresses, Next Time I'll Learn repeating almost mantra like, in a thick haze punctuated by a booming kick, guitar stabs and Rhodes licks. Follow layers the vocals even more hypnotically and unintelligibly, over a beat like a noodling final chord in a jazz track turned into the main event.Title track Two & Three decorates a nostalgic piano loop with synth swells for a wistful finale to wrap up the EP proper perfectly.Remixes from two of our favourite artists compliment the A side. WotNot veteran K15 builds on the release's fragmentary style with a syncopated riff and Rhodes loop sampled from Next Time I'll Learn, opening to a catchy but off-kilter synth hook, with Lua's vocals floating over the final third of the track. Stefan Ringer's (aka Rekchampa - PPU / The Love Below) semi-broken flip of Follow sees angular house organ and bubbling bass providing a robust underscore to the dreamy vocals.Massive shout to Raimund Wong on the artwork!

Just Be Yourself (Kon remix)

photo:
a propos:
The Pretenders 'Just Be Yourself’ remixed from the original Multitrack 2” tapes. DJ Kon has been busy doing re-works and remixes of Chic, Michael Jackson, George Benson, T.S. Monk, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan, Gil Scott Heron, Willie Bobo, Pleasure + many others. This remix of a legendary and highly in demand Modern Soul track on Carnival Records keeps in step with the original recording while breaking ground into new sonic territory. The sound is rich and full due to Analog mixing by Kamal Humphrey through Maurice Starr's SSL Board. Simply a future classic.

Drift EP

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
James Dexter's star has been rising for a while now - the young Brit turning out killer tracks regularly on the back of hugely well received DJ sets. On his second outing for Dessous Recordings, Dexter does what he does best - four slices of deep, funky and vibing house music for the floor. Lead track 'Drift' is typical of Dexter’s flair for subtle, edgy sounds, wrapped inside a warm and inviting groove. Elements come and go, but the shuffling, infection feel runs throughout. 'Take Me' is a more upfront vibe with a seriously bumping groove - Dexter clearly well versed in the roots of house music from Chicago. 'Whose Rules ?' is a snappy, bright and lively production, with a sub bass that will troubler some of the world's best club systems in the coming months. The light, jazzy vocals offsets the groove perfectly - sure to be a big tune for a wide variety of DJs.The last track of the release is 'Disco Deep' - and it pretty much does exactly what it says - a swung, groovy feel punctuated by disco claps and balearic flourishes that will sound as good on the beach as in the basement.

Twilight/Cranc

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
BBE present a new single from Spanish producer Kiko Navarro. We are delighted to present this special pair of tracks from Spanish producer and DJ Kiko Navarro on glorious 12" vinyl, providing a glimpse of his much anticipated forthcoming album 'Everything Happens For A Reason'. Opening track 'Twilight' will need no introduction for crate diggers and 80's club kids. A complete remaking of the Maze classic, Kiko's version raises the tempo into deep house territory, retaining the dreamy, sensual feel of Frankie Beverly's original. Providing a sumptuous taste of the oldschool, Kiko's own acid-laden, energetic dub version of 'Twilight' is sure to wreak havoc on the dance-floor, with perhaps a little hint of good old fashioned euphoria as it reaches it's synth string-filled climax. On the B-Side 'Cranc' provides a raw, analogue, Detroit-esque synth jam, building an intense groove with an insistent, wrongfooting bassline underpinning dizzying arpeggios, jazzy stabs and warm chords.
