Dance Freak

photo:
a propos:
A bonafide dancefloor invitation, this classic cut by Chain Reaction was originally released in 1980 on the P&P affiliate label, Sound Of New York. A project between keyboardist Dwight Brewster (of The Imperials) and percussionist Harold Sargent (of Wood, Brass & Steel fame) Dance Freak provides one finest moments in the entire catalog. A funky disco track with all the elements of a party anthem, it’s no surprise it’s been a favorite of veteran Deejays like Kenny Dope and Danny Krivit. There are many reasons why this track is a must-have for Disco DJs. Outstanding percussions, check. Funky Guitar & Bass lines, check. Catchy chorus, check. Brass accents, very welcomed. Using a synth as a percussive instrument, incredible and most likely lifted from the Patrick Adams Handbook “How to make a hit record”. There really isn’t much more we can say here. We “just wanna Dance with you...”

Space Bitch/ Stimulant

photo:
a propos:
Reggie Blount’s new 7”, “Space Bitch/Stimulant” is up for preorder from Hobo Camp Records, and both tracks feature vocals from your favorite dirty old man of mystery, Zackey Force Funk. The two have a long history of collaboration starting in Tuscon, AZ years ago, including tracks on Zackey’s solo albums Money Green Viper and Electron Don, and now this 7”. Reggie as a producer was a very early adopter to the current funk movement, with seminal EPs on Clone in 2010 and 2012.

XL Middleton & Eddy Funkster

photo:
a propos:
As co-founders of the label MoFunk Records, and the production team behind one of modern funk’s signature anthems, “Press Play” (featuring Zackey Force Funk), XL Middleton + Eddy Funkster’s album is truly an opus long overdue. In sound, it draws heavily from LA’s musical well over the last several generations, bringing forth hard electro funk styles on “Show Some Respect,” bouncy lowrider funk on cuts like “Solicitation,” and giving a progressive nod to 90’s g-funk on the LBC’d out “California Fly,” which features Domino of “Getto Jam” fame. Furthermore, XL + EF channel the more modern feel of ambient, pad-heavy funk on songs like “On Our Way To Funkmosphere.” In spirit, it’s more of a P-Funkesque party, as the entire MoFunk roster plus extended family join in variously on all of the album’s 7 songs, contributing everything from vocals to guitar and talkbox. This is kind of party you’ll want to join in - an ongoing celebration known as modern funk.Latest effort from XL Middleton, whose “Tap Water” album was well received critically and commerciallyFirst joint effort from founders of MoFunk RecordsFeatures from several modern funk artists including Zackey Force Funk, Brian Ellis, Moniquea, and Diamond OrtizFeature from 90’s g-funk artist Domino, known for hit singles “Getto Jam” & “Sweet Potatoe Pie”

Electrify/Breeze

photo:
a propos:
BACK IN STOCK !!!!Described as “an audiovisual production and performance duo,” Shiro Schwarz is truly a complete multimedia experience. The bright, 64-bit aesthetics of their visual style are a perfect compliment to their synth-heavy tunes, which blend elements of boogie funk, synth-pop, and new wave, while wrapping it all in an air of digital mystery, which lends deeply to the allure of their sound. MoFunk Records is proud to bring you Shiro’s first release in vinyl format, a 12” maxi single that includes “Electrify,” originally released in 2015 on their “Street Beat” album, and “Breeze” from 2013’s “Exoplanet Love.”

Never Gonna Leave You/The Dip Drop

photo:
a propos:
The mysterious Evans Pyramid has garnered acclaim from record collectors and DJs alike all over the world including Floating Points, Gilles Peterson, DJ Kon, Soul Clap, Dimitri from Paris, and many others. Deano Sounds tracked down the man behind Evans Pyramid, Andre Evans back in 2012."Never Gonna Leave You" is a sublime disco masterpiece inspired by an emotional break up, wine, and Marvin Gaye. "Andre was able to achieve an undeniably unique sound by overdubbing rhythmic guitar parts while using the technique of muting guitar strings." The B side "Dip Drop" is a left field party jam for the dancefloor with all the bells and whistles. Cultures of Soul Records is proud to officially reissue the Evans Pyramid 12" housed in a custom full color disco sleeve.

Dance Floor Favorites Vol 2

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
This is volume two of a two volume set from edit master Gay Marvine justly called Dance Floor Favorites. These are some of his most sought after unreleased edits that are known for their strong reaction on the dance floor. They cause an instant heat. His perversity shines through the extreme tempo shift of “Jungle Fever” lifting it up into pure ecstatic dance floor action, with all the eroticism of “French Kiss” and all the spanish funk groove of Barrabas. We could to listen to the hypnotic “Goodnight” for hours on end, finally seeing light on vinyl. Gay Marvine’s “What’s Happening Bro” is not an edit per se, it’s what happens when you cross that line and it becomes house. This is perhaps his greatest tribute to Moodymann and his sets at Better Days,Hotbox and La Dolce Vita. The EP ends with the ever dirty “Bump Man” and Gay Marvine’s unique feverish take the needy anthem. Gay Marvine might just be the Frankie Knuckles of edits, because his music will keep you warm in the cold, a true musical heater.
