Feel The Spirit

photo:
a propos:
Another extremely rare underground record coming out of the P&P camp. This highly sought after 12” originally released on Lonnie Records is an absolute gem combining Jazz, Funk and Disco. Although there is little to nothing known about the Foster Jackson Group, Feel The Spirit was Mixed by Tim Benedict, who was a recording engineer at Sound Palace Studios in NYC where he assisted greats like Patrick Adams (on a variety of projects), and Jazz-Funk legend Bob James. With that in mind, it’s no wander this track is one that appeals to both the Jazz Funk/rare groove fans and Disco heads alike. An Incredible uptempo mover loaded with a jazzy organ, horns, congas, and funky breakdowns Feel the Spirit goes far beyond the body, it’s all about the soul!

The Musical Stylings Of...

auteur:

a propos:
It's been a while since Detroit producer Javonntte last treated us to a collection of tracks, with his last fresh material dropping way back in 2008. Since, he's kept himself busy by playing instruments on records by Mike Grant's Cool Ppl project. There's much to admire on this five-track collection, from the fluid deep house bump of "Bounce" - whose killer bassline impressively drives things forward - and wavy late night positivity of "Chaka's Revenge", to the classic US deep house brightness of "My Life". The EP concludes with two versions of "These Words"; the super-soulful, vocal dreaminess of "Mix 3", and the similarly warm and comforting "Original Instrumental".

What Am I Here For?

photo:
a propos:
Soulful fusionists The Dangerfeel Newbies are an interesting proposition. Certainly, the Atlanta-based trio has made an impression on NDATL Muzik boss Kai Alice, who's decided to release a trio of his own interpretations of Hariet album highlight "What Am I Here For". He begins by delivering a classic soulful house interpretation, placing the original's superb vocal and twinkling jazz pianos right at the heart of the action. Those superb piano lines come to the fore on his Piano Instrumental, before the Late Night Mix sees Alice sauntering off on a hazy, duvet-warm deep house tip. Best of all, though, is the bonus remix of "Swingin' With The New Jacks", a fizzing, rolling deep house groover replete with vibraphone solos and battling jazz horns.

Lemonlime

Leron Carson may not be the best-known Midwest producer, but he has history. Carson's first release came way back in 2001, with Theo Parrish putting out a track he'd recorded way back in 1987 and has appeared on Sound Signature intermittently over the years. This new 12" from Carson for Theo's label is HEAVY! "Lemonline" is a deliciously breezy concoction, with Carson's jazzy piano riffs working in perfect unison with bouncy, Latin-influenced drum rhythms. Flipside "Sofnthik", on the other hand, sounds like a previously unheard 1980s Chicago deep house concoction, with warm, loved-up chords swirling around a clattering drum machine groove. Whether it was recorded 30 years ago is unknown, but it certainly boasts a similar lo-fi, analogue feel.

Midnight Exotics

a propos:
Late night dweller Todd Modes can be found deejaying around Detroit playing anything from offbeat ambient grooves to spaced out Disco jams. He released the Todd Modes / Bobby Dolo EP on the cult underground label M1 Sessions, and as Cosmic Handshakes with Dial 81 they put out an EP called 'The Delicate Details'.Now he teams up with Golf Channel's own wild man Mike Severson from the psychedelic Disco rock outfit Heroes of the Galleon Trade. After a session one night, the two step out for a cold one and bump into burly biker bar bandit Randy Winter and the singer song writer sex visionary Emily Infinity. After a few drinks they invited them back to the studio and the vocals were set. Put on your jean jacket slip on your leather boots and ready yourself for a night thrill ride.Golf Channel every time!

Love Is

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Limited White Vinyl 7" Repress Repress on col vinyl from this release from 2014 ! Amazing boogie / funk tunes. Featuring the Egyptian Lover. Check it!!For his debut 45, Brian enlisted two seasoned underground guests to usher in his brand of boogie-funk. “Love Is” features the legendary Egyptian Lover, a master of the 808 and veteran party-rocker on vocoder detail, while on the flip-side, K-Maxx commands the microphone with his signature style on “Electric Body”. Brian Ellis alongside brothers Adam and Jordan Chini make up the modern funk group Reflection. The 3 multi-instrumentalists employ a slew of analog synthesizers, vocoders, vintage drum machines and live guitars to create their own brand of live funk. Standing firmly behind the motto "no computers", Reflection perform without the help of sequencing or quantization giving the audience a true live show.

Can you believe it? Fall of 2014 marks the 20TH ANNIVERSARY of YOSHITOSHI, the seminal record label founded by Deep Dish in 1994.To celebrate, we are bringing the classics back, remastered and with new remixes from an amazing group of heavy hitters from all corners of the dance world.Given that Yoshitoshi's roots are ingrained in house music, it's only fitting to start the re-release campaign with Eddie Amador's classic House Music.Released in 1997 it went on to become a global phenomena with its hypnotic hook and infectious Not Everyone Understands House Music that has become the preach anthem for generation of house music lovers.Along with the remastered original the package includes remixes by Uto Karem, Robosonic & Anthony Attalla....

A Certain Way (Remixes)

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Moniquea’s “A Certain Way,” as first heard on her “Yes No Maybe” album on MoFunk Records, has been remixed by some of the heavyweights in the modern and future funk scenes - Teeko, known for his intergalactic funk expeditions with partner B. Bravo on Starship Connection, and XL Middleton (with Eddy Funkster), who was responsible for the production of the original version. Teeko’s remix molds the original into an even more upbeat incarnation, riding the line between funk and soulful house, maintaining a deep, thumping rhythm with spaced out chords and leads sitting on top. The XL Middleton + Eddy Funkster remix goes in another direction, creating an electrofunk vibe akin to that of legends such as Egyptian Lover, melding fierce 808 drums and sparse synth work with dubbed out slices of Moniquea’s original vocal performance.

New York's Movin'

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
One of the most powerful Disco Cuts in the P&P Affiliate “Land of Hits” Label, New York’s Movin’ is faithful to the name. A seven-plus minute Disco Gem of percussive breakdowns, a solid bass groove, classic strings, and enough guitar licks to make Nile Rodgers a little jealous. Released in 1981, Ahzz was a studio project by Osborne Hunter and Steve Boston who's better known for his work with Kenny Lehman on Roundtree and Lemon. Despite the Backlash of Comiskey Park’s Disco Demolition in 1979 and the commercialization of Disco, it was clear New York City was Still Movin’ in '81. Underground hits like these were just undeniable. Like a lot of the titles on Peter Brown’s labels, today New York’ Movin’ is a rare and highly sought after record. A holy grail for many. Go Ahead, check Discogs then thank the Disco Gods for this re-issue. Let’s Keep on Movin’.
