I Know You Feel It

auteur:

a propos:
Kumasi was a group comprised of Ray Phiri, Jabu Sibumbe, Isaac Mtshali and Lloyd Lelosa. Sometime between their formation as The Cannibals (*needing reissues*) and the almighty group Stimela, Kumasi released one album and a couple of singles. The artists had contracts under Gallo and couldn't reveal that they were linked to the music in any way, leading Kumasi to have only a brief mysterious run in the early 80s.But the secrets out! This release presents a collection of five songs from their incredibly rare full length LP, and adds to that their version of the South African classic, ‘Picnic’. Pressed as a 2x12” compilation, sounding incredible! Kumasi brings a unique blend of disco funk with that special South African tinge.Ray Phiri died in 2017 - this album goes out in his dedication.*Release has four variations of the Protea flower sticker*

The MBO Theme

photo:
a propos:
The 80s Italo disco /proto-house classic ‘MBO Theme’ by the mighty Klein & MBO, repressed! Comes with a heavy South African version on the flip. Huge Tip! “The MBO Theme” (1983) has been a dance floor favorite since decades, created by Mario Boncaldo and Tony Carrasco - the legendary Italian/US duo Klein & MBO. The track got support in NYC and Chicago by greats as Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy. The rare version on the flip is created by a South-African band called Warrior. Rush Hour explain how they came across the track: “We bumped into this version on a South African record digging trip. It took us a few months to realize the scarcity of this version. Ian Osrin, a well respected engineer in South-Africa who was involved in many 80ties and 90ties Bubblegum, Kwaito and South African disco records, explained us about music distribution in South Africa during apartheid. Because the country was culturally banned at the time, a lot of releases weren’t imported or exported. Even when a track was huge, like “The Klein & MBO Theme”. So South African musicians would create their own versions which were sold locally. We got in contact with Tony Carrasco from Klein & MBO. He also hadn’t heard Warrior’s version before, but he liked it as much as we do!”

Cross Section

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Faces Records proudly presents "Cross Section", the debut album of Kez YM, the Berlin based japanese producer. It's been a long way since his debut EP at 4Lux Recordings was played by Moodyman back in 2008. Since then he also received support from influential people like Theo Parrish, Rick Wade and Cassy, just to name a few.Strongly rooted on his Detroit/Chicago Deep House/Funk/Disco/Afro he rocks dancefloors from Berlin to Tokyo, and he's one of the current leading deep house dj's from Japan. From downbeat to more uptempo tracks, this album is a perfect extension of Kez's path until now. Classy and lustful synths pave the way for a combination of elements that draw inspiration from his jazz masters, his motorcity heroes and a strong percusssive connection to Africa.

The Midnight Tower E.P.

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Apart from trying to walk like an Eqyptian back in the 80’s WPH boss Red D never knew much about Egypt, let alone knew that one day he would nodding his head to dusty deep house music made by an Egyptian. Enter Adham Zahran, DJ and producer of some of the deepest grooves ever to arrive at WPH HQ.On his debut E.P. for WPH Adham Zahran presents two pieces of divine house music that ooze soul and musicianship. ‘The Midnight Tower’ will go straight to your hips with it infectious piano hook whereas ‘Disco Infinite’ is a subtle discofied bass affair that would sit well next to classic Theo Parrish or Moodymann stuff. High praise, but just listen and you’ll know it’s well-deserved!

Nakara Percussions

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Hypnotic percussion tracks and organic soundscapes drawing on Africa, Asian, Indian & South American traditions, recorded deep in the French countryside in 1984.Komos Records are proud to present the first-time reissue of a cult French private press rarity at the intersection of jazz, percussion and experimental sounds.Founded by long-time friends Gerard Kurdjian and Stéphane Olivier alongside compatriot Christian Berthier in 1983, Nakara Percussions was a trio from the south of France, fascinated with percussion instruments, rhythms and textures from across the world.Steeped in Jazz and ethnographic recordings, the trio designed and built their own instruments and played across the South of France throughout the 80s, recording a single album in the tiny village of Alliens in 1984.Self-produced and mainly sold at gigs, the record reflects the inquisitive, experimental approach of the group and has become a cult album among DJs and music lovers for its blend of complex rhythms and organic soundscapes, taking in everything from Brazilian batucada to Indian tabla rhythms by way of West African thumb pianos and the drums of the Maghreb. The track “Balimba” has become a dancefloor classic, finding a home in the sets of open-minded techno DJs as well as on the jazz dance and tropical scenes.Press kit contains interviews with Gerard and Stéphane and vintage band and concert photos.
