The B Music Of Jean Rollin 1968-1973

photo:
a propos:
Celebrating the immortal legacy of the late director Finders Keepers Records compile a detailed and comprehensive music cabinet of some of the finest musical moments from his initial directorial decade between 1968-1979, which provided a m much needed platform for the freak rock and free jazz that mirrored the distorted erotic visions in his own mind’s eye. Imagine Gong-gone-wrong meeting the Art Ensembles Of Châteauroux… .Rising out of the smokey Parisian Mai 68 shrapnel and claiming his stake as the first French vampire movie director, the inimitable father of European Horrortica, Jean Rollin (1938-2010) has smudged the painted face of surrealist cinema for over five decades. Dragging his roots from beneath the Letterist/Situationist movements, avant-garde theatre and Belgian fine art groups and entwining them around the minds of sexual revolutionaries, the European comic book cognoscenti and the Parisian free jazz and rock scenes, Rollin stopped at nothing to bring his macabre phantasies of zygotic vampyrism and backwoods blood cults to Gallic cinematheques and beyond.

Early Tape Works 1986-1993 Vol 1

photo:
a propos:
The Japanese producer and DJ Kuniyuki Takahashi is the subject of Music From Memory’s latest retrospective compilation with ‘Early Tape Works - 1986-1993’. Composed of two volumes, the compilations gather together a selection of tracks from a tiny run of privately released tape only albums, highlighting a fascinating early period in Kuniyuki’s musical output, one of which little is known. After discovering the world of nightclubs in Japan around 1986, and the seemingly boundless freedom expressed there through music as well as art, Kuniyuki became inspired to experiment with electronic music. Excited by the possibilities of new music technology, he would begin to gather together a number of, at that time, reasonably accessible and inexpensive local keyboards, drum computers and recording equipment. This became for Kuniyuki a way in which to explore music not as such made for nightclubs, but certainly inspired by them. Setting up a home studio in his hometown of Saporro, Kuniyuki would record extensively during this period with the equipment he had gathered together, equipment such as Roland’s Juno60, TR-606, TB-303, Casio FZ-1, Korg 770, Boss DE-200, Foster A8 and a Yamaha MT44 track cassette recorder.Driven to develop a musical language derived as much by an exploration of music technology and a desire to create new sounds, Kuniyuki was also looking to evolve the possibilities of what he refers to as a ‘new Oriental sound’. Early Tape Works - 1986-1993’ then brings together two albums of material which not only highlights the evolution of Kuniyuki’s own work but also of Japanese electronic music as a whole."

Very happy to have Henry Wu and Earl Jeffers debuting on MCDE Recordings with their double Sider "Projections/Hi-Life".Both Pablo Valentino and myself have been fans of their work, be it Henry and Earls solo stuff or the highly adventurous Yussef Kamaal project which Henry introduced 2 years ago. These guys take the London sound to a whole new level and we are very proud to have them doing their thing on our label.

Love Saves The Day

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
A glorious live disco workout harking back to the spirit of New York's heyday when love and inclusivity ruled the dancefloor. Featuring additional remix by Rahaan. You need this in your life! You know that feeling when you hear a killer melody and it just sticks in your head and makes you wanna dance? Call it disco, call it what you want, this song is packed with soul, emotion and a righteous hook, boasting a stunning vocal performance from US singer Angela Gooden and comes armed with heavy percussion, funky bass, and some serious Rhodes. As part of a three track vinyl package on Madrid label Lovemonk, New York/Madrid DJ, producer and vinyl vendor Oli Stewart, better known as Casbah 73, goes back-to-boogie-basics on the lead track, along with a B side re-fix by Chicago's don of the disco edit, DJ Rahaan, and a full-on Percussion Jam instrumental cut.'Love Saves The Day' is a joyous tribute to open-minded and inclusive clubs past and present with a sly nod to the seminal New York institutions like The Loft and the Paradise Garage. But this record isn't some banal exercise in faithful reproduction, rather a exhuberant slice of soul-disco that reignites the spirit of these underground nightclubs, lofts and warehouses. Casbah 73 has handpicked key musicians from around the globe and threaded all these together for a smack-you-on-the-lips belter, reverberating with positivity – love really is the message.Rahaan's on-the-spot offer to remix 'Love Saves The Day' came about after a chance meeting with Casbah 73 in Madrid. A couple of days were spent checking out records and drinking wine – Oli is one of Europe's leading disco, soul and jazz vinyl dealers – when he played Rahaan an early demo. The rest, as they say, is history

A Franklin Black Excursion

photo:
a propos:
We begin 2018 on a slightly spiritual note, and a brand new Excursion. A vinyl-only 7" flip courtesy of a delightful dream-team duo; Tall Black Guy and Karizma.A real pleasure to welcome these two to the fold, here with 'A Franklin Black Excursion' - a double-header of beautiful re-interpretations of a classic by the Queen of Soul. For those that don't know, Tall Black Guy is a regular favourite from our sister-label, First Word Records, on which he's released two albums over the past few years ('8 Miles To Moenart' and 'Let's Take A Trip'). Detroit-born Terrel Wallace has built a solid rep in recent times as one of the most revered beatmakers on the planet. Initially pricking peoples ears with a series of incredible edits, he has garnered fans far & wide from Gilles to Jazzy Jeff (with whom he's become a regular stalwart of The PLAYlist Retreat sessions). Production, remixes and collabs have included Moonchild, Little Dragon, Masego, Terrace Martin, Zara McFarlane, The Mouse Outfit and Stro Elliot.

I'm Gonna Mis Ya

photo:
a propos:
More fire from Aaron Broomfield's archive, here we have two sought after sides. 'I'm gonna miss ya' was transferred from tapes by Aaron himself and is a brilliant boogie joint that's highly coveted on many scenes for good reason. On the flip we have got the super rare and relatively unknown 'Does Anybody Really Know', one for the heads, no master exists for this but Jeremy Underground kindly lent me his minty copy to master from, Jeremy is a man who possess extremely good taste in Modern Soul and Disco and who we will be working with more in the future…

Stop/Doin' It Our Way

photo:
a propos:
Vocalist and mult- instrumentalist family theBroomfield's might be new to you but Deepfunk heads know the deal. The six Broomfield siblings (vocalist, Diane and her 5 brothers) released some of the best Rare groove 12s and 45s in the 1980s (Although this 45 was recorded in 1979) as well as recording with Betty Wright, KC and the Sunshine Band, Timmy Thomas, Little Beaver, Julio Iglesias, Michael Sterling and many, many more.Championed by Keb Darge and others on the Deepfunk scene in the early 2000s, this record has remained agonisingly elusive, despite being very popular as both sides are brilliant. So, with the help of Symphonical records we got in touch with Aaron and made this happen, look out for Aaron's 45 dropping soon as well.
