For many years, Mr. Brady has been a staple in the hip-hop game, and has consistently found ways to reinvent himself and stay relevant. Many know Mr. Brady solely as an Emcee from albums such as Dirty, released via Battle Axe Records, or from his work with super collective Deep Rooted. What many fans might not know is that this multi-talented artist also uses his abilities to create the roots of his art. With just about every release of his own, Mr. Brady holds the feat of handling a majority of the production, which is what lead to the inevitable and much welcomed release of his instrumental studio album, Speechless. Producing for the likes of Diamond D, Blu, and Aloe Blacc to name only a few, Mr. Brady effortlessly hops behind the boards with his signature grit, raw, and soulful sound. Speechless is a primarily sample chop based 15-track opus, emitting hard-hitting drums and wobbly heavy basslines, designed to wake you out of slumber, with resonance that emanates throughout your entire body. From start to fnish, Speechless is more than a listen, but rather it is a journey, full of evoked emotions and feelings straight from the heart of Mr. Brady’s soul. On a record where Mr. Brady remains speechless, we undeniably hear him, loud and clear.

Disco Fruit's sublabel continues to turn out smooth and slick deep, funky house, and this time around Tonbe is on hand with the goods to get the people grooving. "Broken Heart" features Rachel on vocals and some sweet saxophone, hitting the spot just right for universally appealing house music. "Street Groove" is a more forthright, clubby affair where the drums take the lead and the keys lock into a loopy late night roll. "Feel So Good" features some more choice vocal turns with urgent melodic hooks, and then "Something Jazzy" swoops in at the end with some proper New Jersey heat to get your body popping.

Evil Smarty has been lurking around Disco Fruit some time, and now gets to commit some serious grooves to wax in the form of this fierce four-tracker. "This Is" is a sure fire hit not least because of the killer speech about genre-fluidity, not to mention the sassy groove behind it. "If It Feels Good" is a bright and brash funker riding at an easy tempo, while "Feel The Fire" weaves a little acid magic amidst the bombastic disco heat. "The Get Down" might just be the clincher though, whipping out a low-slung version that rides easy at 98 bpm but keeps the soul sizzling at a peak level the whole way through.

Les escapades dans des mondes parallèles comme le Rock, le Hip Hop, l'Afro Beat ou la Soul ouvrent la voie à de multiples fusions, expérimentations et improvisations de haut vol. Si l'on sent un parfum de nostalgie des années 1970, le Jazz-Funk de The Big Hustle est en pleine phase avec son temps, avec les sonorités actuelles qui nous promettent encore quelques beaux lendemains pour cette musique d'antan.The Big Hustle s’entoure sur l’album d’une vingtaine d’invités pour donner encore plus de volume à un son déjà bien massif. Trombone, harmonica, violoncelle, scratchs... la recherche des timbres est à chaque titre une nouvelle aventure. Thomas Faure, le saxophoniste et arrangeur du désormais légendaire groupe Electro Deluxe, est venu porter sa caution au projet en participant à un titre de l’album. L’américaine Melissa Mc Millan, Nina Attal, le rappeur Beat Assailant, Jo Champ et quelques autres jolis grains de voix apportent une petite touche vocale bienvenue dans cette profusion de beats et de grooves. Comment avec toute la complexité rythmique, la technicité, la sophistication des arrangements ont-ils réussi à garder l’ensemble accessible et digeste ? Le secret réside dans la quête de groove qui n’a jamais quitté Sébastien depuis sa rencontre avec Motown mais aussi dans sa soif d’ailleurs, dans sa passion pour les voyages qu’il tente de traduire à travers une musique ouverte sur les sonorités du monde.
