Train Wreck/Trees

DJ support:Gilles Peterson!!!! - BBC Radio 6 Music Benji B - Radio 1 Emma Warren - Gilles Peterson Wolrdwide FM show / the Guardian Don Letts - BBC Radio 6 Music Dom Serving - Wah Wah 45's Manu (Radar Radio) Arthur Tanoh (Reprezent Radio)ASHXXX001 sees the return of Ash Walker with this underground banger, strictly for the heads!A-side 'Train Wreck' is a low-slung, sultry and bass-driven track. It combines swung high hats and trumpet stabs with moody vocals and guitar chords - all underpinned by a powerful walking bassline. B-side 'Trees' is more indebted to hip hop, and carries with it the influence of classic Ninja Tune, DJ Shadow and The Herbaliser. Again, a deep bassline is used, which proves to be the driving force behind the track's boom bap drums and glassy, reverberant keys.In the hands of the right DJ, these versatile tracks could sound great in a variety of settings - from jazz clubs, to soul and funk nights, to bass-orientated club nights. Ash Walker has recently gained some really impressive support from across the scene, from DJs such as Gideon Coe and Gilles Peterson at BBC Radio 6 Music, Dom Servini at Wah Wah 45s and Rob Louie at Tru Thoughts.ASHXXX001 will be released as a limited edition white label 7" ONLY

Thomas

a propos:
Italian Soundtrack milestone and pure masterpiece of Italian Giallo Thriller exploitation. Infamous, legendary Score for the film directed by cult italian director Pupi Avati and originally released on Gemelli label in 1970. Mindblowing scary Giallo vibes / stunning cinematic sinister beats with the participation of Edda Dell'Orso who gives some astonishing frightful vocals / dope thrilling vibes allover. THOMAS aka THOMAS E GLI INDEMONIATI- Horror/Thriller/Fantasy/Drama/Grotesque film cult from 1969, originally not distributed due to the bankrupt of film publisher. Mythical item for record collectors and foundamental piece for any italian Giallo/Thriller enthusiast.

This Is The Moment

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
"This Is the Moment" was originally released as the B-side of "Lord Please Hear my Prayer", a rare 45 published by Cipiti Records, written by Tony Benn Feghaly and Sante Palumbo, it's an amazing gospel-soul song interpreted by Edith Peters. In only two minutes and a half The Sante Palumbo Orchestra accompanies Peters’ entrancing voice, delivering a groovy and intense interpretation. The original 1973 version of the song is here featured as a B-side, while Gerardo Frisina signs the A-side of this reissue with a rework of the track – doubling the length and adding his signature rhythm patterns.A quite unknown artist, Edith Peters was active between the 50s and 70s, singing as a member of the Peters Sisters, and as an actress, after marrying her Italian agent in 1958, she moved to Italy where she starred in several movies, TV series and ads.In 1973 Sante Palumbo wrote and arranged a couple of songs for Edith Peters, perhaps with the aim of promoting her solo career. It was the same he released “Sway”, which was destined to become a cult LP.“This Is the Moment” was originally released as the B-side of “Lord Please Hear my Prayer”, a rare 45 published by Cipiti Records. On Cipiti she had already released her rendition of “Speak Softly, Love”, a theme from “The Godfather” soundtrack, though her career was at that time orientated more toward her activity as a TV and movie actress. And when the single was released, it was rapidly overshadowed by more important releases like “The Dark Side Of The Moon” by Pink Floyd. And it is a shame, since “This Is the Moment”, written by Tony Benn Feghaly (erroneously credited as ‘T. B. Feghall’ in the original release) and Sante Palumbo, is an amazing gospel-soul song. In only two minutes and a half The Sante Palumbo Orchestra accompanies Peters’ entrancing voice, delivering a groovy and intense interpretation – a richness that requires multiple listen to grasp all the nuances of this stunningly orchestrated piece. The original 1973 version of the song is here featured as a B-side, while Gerardo Frisina signs the A-side of this reissue with a rework of the track – doubling the length and adding his signature rhythm patterns.

Headnod Suite

photo:
a propos:
Best known as a jazz drummer and hip-hop producer, Karriem Riggins returns with Headnod Suite. The album is the follow up to 2012’s critically acclaimed debut Alone Together. With 29 instrumental hip-hop tracks, Headnod Suite places Riggins’ beatmaking chops front and center. It’s a testament to why Riggins is the producer of choice for artists like Kanye West, Common, Erykah Badu, and The Roots.

Brand New Wayo: Funk Fast Times & Nigerian Boogie Badness 1979-1983

photo:
a propos:
Repress! With this release, Comb & Razor Sound launches its exploration of the colorful world of popular music from Nigeria, starting with the post-disco era of the late 1970s and early 80s. The years between 1979 and 1983 were Nigeria's Second Republic, when democracy finally returned after twenty-three years of uninterrupted military dictatorship. They were also the crest of Nigeria’s oil boom, when surging oil prices made the petroleum-producing country a land of plenty, prosperity and profligacy. The influx of petrodollars meant an expansion in industry and the music industry in particular. Record companies upgraded their technology and cranked out a staggering volume of output to an audience hungry for music to celebrate the country’s prospective rise as global power of the future. While it was a boom time for a wide variety of popular music styles, the predominant commercial sound was a post-afrobeat, slickly modern dance groove that retrofitted the relentless four-on-thefloor bass beat of disco to a more laidback, upbeat-and-downbeat soul shuffle, mixing in jazz-funk, synthesizer pop and afro feeling. At the time, it was still mostly locally referred to as “disco,” but has since been recognized as its own unique genre retrospectively dubbed “Nigerian boogie.” A Brand New Wayo: Funk, Fast Times and Nigerian Boogie Badness collects 15 pulsing Nigerian boogie tracks in a lovingly compiled package chronicling one of the most progressive and creative eras in the history of African popular music.

Calabar-Itu Road: Groovy Sounds From South Eastern Nigeria (1972-1982)

photo:
a propos:
Limited 2xLP in silk screen sleeve + 44 page booklet"When most people think about Nigerian music, the first thing that comes to mind is Lagos—the country’s main commercial center, the glittering megacity that spawned Yoruba-speaking music luminaries such as Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Sir Shina Peters and Wizkid. But Nigeria is a country of rich diversity, especially in its music: From the Igbo highlife and rock bands of east-central region, to the deep Edo roots rhythms from the midwest, to the keening, ornamented Fulani melodies of the north. But one region whose music has remained largely underexplored is the south eastern land of the Efik and Ibibio ethnic groups in Cross River and Akwa Ibom State—the region colloquially referred to as “Calabar.” A cradle of culture, this region was one of the earliest outposts of Nigerian popular music. Its primordial rhythms traveled across the Atlantic during the slave trade to provide the part of the foundation for Afro-Cuban grooves that would go on to influence the development of jazz, rock & roll, R&B and funk. With the new Calabar-Itu Road compilation, Comb & Razor Sound presents15 heavy tracks recorded in the decade between 1972 and 1982, spotlighting rare music from “Calabar” superstars such as Etubom Rex Williams, Cross River Nationale, Charles “Effi” Duke, The Doves and Mary Afi Usuah. The package features a magazine-style booklet containing a wealth of information about the milieu with rare photographs and illustrations. The Calabar-Itu Road is the major artery linking modern-day Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. And Calabar-Itu Road: Groovy Sounds from South Eastern Nigeria (1972-1982) will link the region’s music to the rest of the world!"
