The Reflecting Sea (Welcome To A New Philosophy)

a propos:
As music continuously evolves, times change and new ideas and movements come & go. All of this functions in tandem with scientific, technological, social and political advancements in our society. The biggest component to that evolution is the people. There are creators and consumers. One cannot exist without the other. Throughout art, the audience defines quality, but artist has the power to introduce change and shift perception. Execution is key. The masses are always hungry for something fresh. Sometimes we're at the forefront of new trends and sometimes we find comfort innovating the past. No matter what, musicians have a responsibility to bridge the gap. Raw Poetic and Damu the Fudgemunk meet all of the above. Produced entirely by the artists, the new album "The Reflecting Sea" revisits sonic textures of yesteryear and combined with their own distinct ears for music, have created something uniquely foreign for the music world in our time. Speaking of the times, Raw Poetic's lyrical subject matter is nothing short of relevancy. Speaking from an observatory perspective in addition to his own personal experiences, the album's content is infinitely relatable.Although known primarily as hip hop acts, both Damu and Raw P stretched out to expand what the genre is known for. The combination of elements from the mix of live instrumentation, improvisation and sampling to the range of styles including jazz, fusion, rock, electronic and soul make The Reflecting Sea unlike anything else. Captured and recorded in it's rawest form, the album is honest expression. Masterminding the festival sounds is Damu the Fudgemunk. His voice is absent from the recordings, but his presence is immediately noticed throughout the 40 minute exhibition. Packed with tons of beats, tons of scratching, original compositions, upbeat and signature atmosphere, there's no question who's behind the boards. With the average tempo of over 100bpm, this is one of the most energetic releases in Redefinition's catalog. Raw P and the Fudgemunk aim to revitalize listeners of all types with their original sound. They call it "The Reflecting Sea: Welcome to a New Philosophy."Raw Poetic (MC), hails from the DMV area by way of Philadelphia. In addition to several collaborations with Damu the Fudgemunk, he's recorded 6 albums as a member of Panacea, 1 album with K-def, 1 album with Kev Brown and recent features with Brous One in which all have been met with critical acclaim.Damu the Fudgemunk (producer/DJ) is a DC native who co-owns and operates Redefinition Records. With several successful releases as a solo artist, his music has garnered a reputation in the last decade for it's consistent quality and conceptual structure.

Dr. Dundiff releases “Muneybeats” as part of the “Beats from Jakarta” series & continues what Ta-ku and Shuko started years ago.Dr. Dundiff (done different) is a Hip-Hop/Neo-Soul producer based out of Louisville, KY. Dundiff has gotten into producing around 2010 and has been a busy bee ever since with a huge number of projects under his belt, from producing as well as him rapping. Those who follow Jakarta Records might know the name from his ongoing collaboration with Otis Junior. They released their debut EP “1moment2another” on Jakarta Records receiving wide daytime airplay and recognition from French tastemaker Radio NOVA, as well as 1.500.000 Mio. Streams for their debut EP “1Moment to Antother” through Spotify & a placement on Radio Nova's “le grand Mix 2016” compilation.Muneybeats is Dr. Dundiff revisiting his roots in an all instrumental experience. “Put the most attractive beats on top. The ones that make you pull the car over and go, 'Wow, I need this be a right now.’ Those are the Muneybeats. Compact little tasty treats spanning a wide range of sounds while always sounding like Dundiff made them. He is currently also working on a new project with Otis Junior which will drop sometime in 2018 as well as their first Europe tour in summer 2018.„Beats from Jakarta“ is a series Jakarta Records kicked off some years ago with contributions from Shuko and Ta-ku, heavyweights in their own right, and we felt it would be nice to bring that series back when Dundiff sent us his new album. So here we go. „Beats from Jakarta“ part 3….

Agboju Logun

photo:
a propos:
BACK IN STOCK Strut present a brand new 12” reissue of Shina Williams’ monster Nigerian disco anthem ‘Agboju Logun’, pairing the rare original album version (released on Phonodisk Nigeria) with the more sparse 12” remix which surfaced later internationally on Earthworks. This is the third release on STRUT'S new Original Masters Series.Back in 1979 when Shina Williams’ ‘Agboju Logun’ frst appeared on his ‘African Dances’ LP, Williams knew well that the track was breaking new ground. “I want to show the whole wide world that Africa is alive with modern musicians to reckon with anywhere,” he stated. Now an accepted Afro disco classic of its time, ‘Agboju Logun’ did indeed bring together the cream of Nigeria’s players as a oneoff supergroup in one inspired session. As a long-standing and well respected highlife musician and vocalist, Williams called in the ‘A’ list: Tunde Martins from Afro Collective played bass guitar, the brilliant Biddy Wright (player on albums by Lijadu Sisters, Blo and many more) contributed the famous synth lines and handled production, Fred Fisher was on trombone and Saliu Alabi played talking drum.Enjoying limited success upon its release in Nigeria, ‘African Dances’ nevertheless gained some international attention when Earthworks’ Jumbo Van Renan licensed two tracks from it for an international 12” single release in 1984, remixing ‘Agboju Logun’ in a more stripped back mix for dancefoors. However, it was the period following Fela Kuti’s death in the late ‘90s that truly ignited interest in archive African grooves for a new internet generation. Strut’s frst ‘Nigeria 70’ compilation featured the track in 2000 and it has been a staple in DJs’ crates ever since. ‘Abboju Logun’ is released in a picture jacket 12” featuring original artwork and all musicians’ credits and is fully remastered by The Carvery.- First offcial reissue of 12” version and LP version together- Restored by See Why Audio and remastered by The Carvery- Sleeve features original Phonodisk artwork and musicians’ credits- Essential reissue of Afro disco classic

As 10 Mais Boogie Vol 1

photo:
a propos:
BACK IN STOCK What exactly is Boogie? Is it a genre, an era, a style? Colours, clothes, textures are all part of its make up. Boogie is the “top shelf” music of the 80s. Anything from this era that brings along Moog synths, vocoders, DX7s, or triggered Oberheim drum sounds, is Boogie! Brasil has a huge archive of underground dancefloor heat. Dierent styles of music ranging from Macumba to Samba, MPB to Pop, Electro to early Hip-Hop, were all stung by this Brasilian “Boogie Bug”, cleverly orchestrated by geniuses of the style, Robson Jorge, Lincoln Olivetti, Junior Mendes, Mister Sam, Sergio Sá, to name a few, were the backbone of uncountable projects by big names of Brasil ´s pop and underground music scene during the 80s. This compilation brings together a bunch of non-obvious “compactos” (33 RPM 7” singles), most of them, promos, which never saw the light of record store shelves, but instead sat for years in the dead-vaults of radio stations or ended up in second hand shops, flea markets, church basements to junkyards. We, SDB Discos, are excited to put together this eclectic selection inspired by the best in Brazilian 80s music. In this compilation we gathered 10 rare Boogie hits from very well know maestros of the genre such as Tim Maia, Cassiano, Tony Bizarro and other underground artists like Elizio de Buzios with his only recording, the funky boogie joint “Tamanqueiro”, Gaby Whiskadão featuring the disco hit “Super Amor”, the B-Boy Crew Electric Boogies with their very fresh early 80s rap hit “Break Mandrake” as well as the very obscure group called Let ´s Dance featuring their version of “Riguera” sung in Portuguese entitled “Dance com a Gente”. Even after so many years, Brasil’s most obscure boogie gem is yet to be found on a long diggin’ session thru thousands of records full of weird looking haircuts, somewhere near São Paulo or Rio de Janeiro. This project is dedicated to all the “Boogie Heads” doing what they do best, keep searching!

Makiyaj/Tes idées

a propos:
12" vinyl single, 45RPM.Both songs written and composed by Jules-Henry Malaki remastered by Benjamin Joubert at Biduloscope studio, ParisFollowing the success of the Retro Zouk mixtapes series (https://soundcloud.com/secousse/sets/retro-zouk-mixtapes), Secousse Radio proudly presents its first official vinyl rerelease of a long lost Zouk banger.Originally released in 1993-1994, those two tracks have been road-tested in various clubs and parties for months and the feedback is clear: it is dancefloor devastation business.Their author is Jules-Henry Malaki, an established and self produced artist from Guadeloupe, a French overseas island in the Southern Carribbean sea.As the popularity of Zouk music keeps growing every day in Europe, America and Asia, just whisper the name ‘Makiyaj’ to any of the best DJs from the current tropical / diggers scene and watch their eyes scintillate… This secret weapon shall not remain secret very long.

Walking La Mona EP

photo:
a propos:
Mona Musique returns with more delectable Deep House for it’s second release : the debut EP from veteran DJ Lea Lisa, featuring Rich Medina.Consistently flying the flag for House music for over 15 years, Lea Lisa is one of those understated DJs responsible for pushing the sound, regardless of electronic trends. A mainstay through her residencies in Lyon and Toulouse and integral involvement in respected record store Innerdisc, Lea has been cultivating her production skills for some time behind the scenes, until now. A long time friend of label boss Nick V, playing each other's parties back in 2004, Mona Musique presents it’s second release “Walking La Mona”. Inspired by the work of her mentor Larry Heard and her close friend Kerri Chandler, “Imagine That” is classic House : simple, effective but above all emotive. Complimented by the haunting deep tones of Rich Medina, his conscious spoken words echo discontentment around the current political (or global) climate. On the flip side Lea reminisces of the early 90s with a revived spirit on “Intention”. Certainly one for the dancefloor, it is Lea Lisa’s subtle production work in the beats, synths and organs that make the difference here.

Open Soul

photo:
a propos:
Floating Points reissues rare '70s soul album, Tomorrow's People's Open Soul. The collector's favourite will be available for the first time in 40 years via Melodies International.Melodies International proudly expand their catalogue of rare soul gems with another carefully crafted reissue, complete with full 16 page Melozine. This time it's the spellbinding Tomorrow's People album: Open Soul which was originally released in 1976. Deep in South Chicago, a band of four brothers raised on doo-wop and flea-market instruments made a record during the mid 70s that did not only mark a seminal point in their youthful careers, but would go on to become a true collector’s favourite. Open Soul is quite simply one of the best examples of raw, stripped down soul in its purest form, and for this reason has become a highly sought after rarity. The album has been carefully reproduced and will be officially available for the first time in 40 Years, this time accompanied by an interview with one of the original brothers, various Tomorrow's People memorabilia and a number of other contributions from Melodies' friends around the world.
