The White 3 EP

auteur:

a propos:
Brian Harden is back on D3 Elements with a new three track EP that once again explores richly musical deep house with a difference. Harden is a criminally overlooked Chicago producer who had big success in the 90s thanks to releases on Moods & Grooves, Nite Life Collective and Undaground Therapy Muzik. He then took a break away from music, but the D3 label boss coaxed him out of retirement in 2014 with a top debut EP for the label. Since then he has also released on Sistrum and Soul Print, and is now properly back in business. First cut 'Paradox' is a mid tempo house roller with scale-riding chords and emotive, late night tinkles on the keys that really speak to your soul. Golden pads stream in the background and it's a hugely classy affair all round. 'Nostalgic Pieces' is then a deeper cut with a warped baseline and starry night sky melodies up top. Again, lush, musical chords shimmer and simmer deep in the track, lending it a real sense of artistry and separating Harden from the legions of modern deep house imposters. Finally, 'Chicago Homage' is an elastic, spacious cut with rubbery kicks, soft hi hats and a tumbling bas riff that once again come coated in gorgeous pads. This is music that makes you feel good as you dance your every day woes away.

Can't Explain EP

photo:
a propos:
With sounds as smooth as butter and grooves as juicy as jam fillings, Joe The Baker Gill has cooked up two fondant slabs of disco funk right here. There's a sweaty post-punk sheen to "Can't Explain" thanks its slap-happy bassline, fuzzy guitars and sultry vocals. "Mamba Gascoine", meanwhile, is a foggier, swampy slice of cosmic, dub-minded funk designed for the darker, heads-down moments. Remix-wise the ever-reliable Emperor Machine step forward with two epic, 10-minute workouts that explore every possible corner of Joe's jiggling, party-friendly groove.

Talking God

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Stunning new Balearica business from Swedish synth seducer Sasac; bubbling and deliciously slow and low tempo, the big synth washes shimmer over a subtle but sedate bassline. The three remixes are tailored to suit all shades of your soiree; Eddie C ups the tempo and doubles the length while maintaining the twinkle factor with relentless arpeggios. Alex Israel subverts proceedings with mischievous acid wriggles and a loose, latent funk around the beats. Benedek, meanwhile, takes us on a G-soul trip through the finest shades of 80s with the ultimate seduction version. Godly.

Join The Fookin Party!

Bastedos returns hosting two disco objects lovingly versioned by Nad. One side features the vocal talents of a mystery man with low riding balls imploring those gathered to hear him to 'join his party'...if you look at his backside, so to speak, you will head off down to sunny rainbow filled Castro for a happy sing along and dancing tune versioned from vaults of Moby Dick.

Kouté Jazz

photo:
a propos:

Kellion The Stories Of A Young Boy

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Long Arm follows up 'The Branches' from 2012 ! Every new experience lets him grow as a person and also expands his knowledge of the world that surrounds him. His young mind is sometimes blurrying the lines between imagination and reality, dreaming and being awake, reality and fantasy. Making sense of this world in its very own unique way, his world is filled with fantastic and surreal magical creatures and quirky characters.Over the course of the ten songs many different little adventures unfold and await the young boy, slowly building his character while he explores nature in all its varieties and learns to appreciate it. He lives through new emotions and gets to learn about his own feelings during the process. The title track ‘Kellion’ represents the very inner world of the kid – it is his cocoon where he can always return to and be safe after his journeys and adventures.‘Kellion’ is the story of a young boy who was born into a mysterious world he explores with his curious eyes, ears and hands.“I was trying to live his life with him together and feel what he felt. I tried to understand and recollect what it feels like as a little boy walking around in this big world. I attempted to see the world through his eyes, to experience his fears and happiness and in doing that, just helping him to be a kid.” – Long Arm

Liza Liza

photo:
a propos:
Reissue of Elias Rahbani & His Orchestra's super rare Arabic Disco holy grail 'Liza Liza' on the original Lebanese 'Voix De L'Orient' label. Recorded pre-Civil War at a time when Beirut was known as the 'Paris of the Middle East', a luxurious holiday destination and flourishing trade centre. The title track is totally out of this world, perfectly blending Eastern & Western vocals, instruments and musical influences with a driving disco bassline to create an irresistible floor filling cosmic odyssey. The flipside features the even more out-there 'From The Moon' a fantastic tripped out psychedelic disco funk monster, followed by the dreamy accordion-led 'Summer Love'. Also boasting one of the sexiest covers in disco history further illustrating the liberal thinking and western influence in Lebanon at the time. Highly recommended!

My Way Home

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Moodymann's Mahogani Music has been branching out over the last year or so, unexpectedly releasing music from artists around the globe, and from Europe of all places. While the label was usually associated with either Moody's own music or with producers in and around the Detroit area, the introduction of tracks by Dan Shake and now Obas Nenor have given the label a new edge. Nenor has previously released only one other EP, for the equally rejuvenated Strictly Rhythm out of NYC, but his cuts have already carved their own sound, their own identity. The limited - at least for now - two-tracker contains "My Way Home", a soulful, mid-tempo house burner for the summer haze, and the bouncier "Change Got To Come" - a funky club shaker that you could imagine Moody blasting out while sipping on a glass of cognac, and doing what he does best. Act fast.

No Turning Back

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Having been one of the bands that has spearheaded the resurgence in deep, gritty funk and soul for over 10 years, and having collaborated with luminaries like Eddie Bo, Marva Whitney, Sharon Jones, Billy Wooten, Sir Joe Quarterman and most recently ex James Brown vocalist Martha High, Speedometer enjoy a worldwide reputation as a class act.And now in 2015, band leader Leigh Gracie and the group bring a welcome spotlight to a fresh vocal talent - James Junior.James has been part of the UK soul and gospel scene mainly as an in-demand session vocalist and arranger. He has generally stayed of out the limelight until now. Having grown up on a diet of classic soul and Motown, his collaboration with Speedometer on this album brings together the band's heavy grooves with James' rich vocal tones to produce an authentically old school sound - yet totally fresh. You only have to listen to the album opener Don't Fool Yourself to immediately grasp that this young man's voice is the perfect choice to grace this new Speedometer collection. Likened to a young Donny Hathaway or Stevie Wonder, James has all the perquisite tone, phrasing and soul to make a big impact on a world awoken to genuinely soulful sounds by acts such as Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, but is also fully adept to adapt to the varying genres Speedometer specialise in - the latin/bossa nova groove of the title track No Turning Back, the deep, funky afrobeat of Troubled Land and the stomping Northern Soul style track Homebreaker.James Junior gives the band an extra dimension and purpose but more importantly gives James the spotlight which he deserves. And No Turning Back is just the beginning...
