E Deixa O Relógio Andar!

The outstanding 1971 debut by piano player and arranger Osmar Milito features his amazing cover of Herbie Hancock's ‘Cantaloupe Island’ plus several classic Brazilian songs by Marcos Valle, Jorge Ben and Ivan Lins among others. Fierce samba jazz and bossa all the way through! The line-up of performing artists could hardly be more impressive: Quarteto Forma on vocals, Luis Eça, Marcos Valle, Pascoal Meirelles… This brilliant album is up there with the best work of Arthur Verocai and Marcos Valle.During the 90s, a walk around London’s Camden Market inevitably meant listening to the music with groove that the most popular DJs had made fashionable at the time: soul jazz instrumentals and Brazilian music targeting the club dancefloors. Among all those songs that ended up becoming classics of the scene was the amazing cover version of Herbie Hancock’s ‘Cantaloupe Island’ that Osmar Milito had recorded in 1971. This song was probably the main reason that made his LP for Som Livre one of the most sought after Brazilian records by collectors from all over the world. Now we finally have a new opportunity to enjoy this album, reissued on vinyl for the first time.Along with the aforementioned version of Herbie Hancock’s song, this first album by piano player and arranger Osmar Milito is full of versions of Brazilian classics, from Marcos Valle to Jorge Ben or Ivan Lins. Fierce samba jazz and bossa all the way through! Note that Milito spent the first years of his career as a member of the backing band of big artists such as Elis Regina, Jorge Ben, Nara Leão... and after two years working with Sergio Mendes in the United States, he returned to Brazil and recorded his first LP.The line-up of performing artists on this album could hardly be more impressive: Quarteto Forma on the vocals, Luis Eça, Marcos Valle, Pascoal Meirelles (what an amazing drummer he is!)... and both sides of the record hide a seamless sequence of solid tune after solid tune with similar doses of instrumental and vocal tracks. Just listen to the magnificent ‘Garra’, ‘Que bandeira’ or ‘Rita Jeep’, or the sweet samba that gives its name to the record, and you will see why this LP should be up there, next to the best works of Arthur Verocai and Marcos Valle.

Electropical Pt 2

photo:
a propos:
Pete Herbert, Afro fusion outfit Oyobi and Neo Soul singer Andre Espeut jump on the train to the South American territories in order to meet Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel for the continuation of their latest sonic excursion: Electropical Part 2.Track brakedown:A1 Esta Musica - Feat. Andre Espeut: Andre drops his signature silky vocal sound translated in Spanish for this undercover groover of Synthesized Latin-Soul.A2 Sabana (Pete Herbert Remix) The classic Venezuelan folk tune "Sabana" gets the PH treatment for this massive Balearic conveyor.A3 Sabana "Tonada De Ordeño - Milking songs" are relaxing songs that peasants sing at farms across the entire Latin-American region when rounding up the cows in the early hours of the dawn. The tonada "Sabana" (originally composed by maestro Simon Diaz) gets the Nu Jazz treatment for a full re-composition that shows a clear window into the restless spirit of sonic innovation that's driven Juan & Jorge since the early years of their career.B1 Vuelo Del condor (Oyobi Remix): Oyobi delivers an Epic remix of "El Vuelo Del Condor" combining G Funk vibes with Afro / Latin roots.B2 Semana Santa En Achaguas: A raw recording of live Drums and Congas so locked in a heavy Guaguanco groove, with the trumpet and vocal scatting of Andre Espeut's call and response setting it all off in an improvised jazz style somewhat reminiscent of Ray Barreto's early years of experimental psychedelia.

Electropical

photo:
a propos:
Infusing tropical vibes and electronic grooves to reflect the vivid ever evolving Latin American soundscape is the fresh musical excursion 'Electropical' as synthesised by London based producers, Juan Laya and Jorge Montiel. 'Electropical' - one word, one sound that distils a melting pot of authentic Latin anthems, jazzy grooves, disco infused songs and Balearic sounds all processed in HD for an immersive experience which explores the colourful influences of the Caribbean, vast Amazonian dimensions and beyond. Its heart-warming journey is a highly seductive experience that further enhances the mood with repeated play.'Electropical' sees Juan Laya & Jorge Montiel (best known for their Los Charlys Orchestra albums and tracks) re-imagine some of the most emblematic tracks from the Latin music world including ''Manduco' and 'Fruta Fresca' as well unveiling new material including an awesome jazzy Latin Disco version of the millennial summer anthem 'Pasilda'. Playful sounds and organic grooves are carefully balanced with a subtle 'Electropical' touch to forge a natural expression of fusion - a perspective that has characterised the work of Juan & Jorge for more than a decade now. From the impressive folk-inspired Todd Terje favourite, 'Cumbanchero' (included on his Radio 1 Essential Mix) to the raw percussive style of 'Tambor Urbano' 'Electropical' elegantly weaves into its textures the primal drums, rippling jazz guitar, undulating bass and unique sounds such as vibraphone, Peruvian pan flute and congas conjuring the roots of Latin music in 'Electropical' style. This unique sonic landscape forges an intimate connection.Flag-bearers for contemporary Latin-infused sounds London/Venezuelan production duo, Juan Laya and Jorge Montiel, celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2017 by joining forces with the soul legend, Omar on 'It's So/History' alongside classic cuts such as 'All Around The World', 'Everlasting Love' & 'Sunshine'

The Miracles Of The Seven Dances

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Reissue of the belly dance holy grail from the organ king of Cairo, combining traditional rhythms with spaced out modern sounds.Hany Mehanna, beloved musician and composer of the greatest artists from the Arab world such as Oum Kalthoum and Abdel Halim Hafez, shows himself from a more experimental side on his solo albums. Originally released in 1973 ‘The Miracles of the 7 Dances’ is a pure work of genius: hypnotic organ grooves, psychedelic guitars, mystic strings and haunting percussion.
