The series continues with Tom Zé’s unstoppable riff on “Jimmy, Renda-Se” with Eduardo Araujo sounding a bit like a Brazilian Tom Jones on the B-side, “Kizumbau.” Also available this time out, the funked up deep groove “A Hora E Essa” from Celia with Franco’s jazzy funk cut “El, Voce, Psui!” on the flip.

Aquarela De Um Pais Na Lua

photo:
a propos:
Brazil 45, number 38A. Taiguara - Aquarela De Um País Na LuaExtremely unique, psychedelic uptempo Brazilian jazz fusion. Flutes, piano and vocal harmonies drift in and out of the mix, creating a lush soundscape. Taiguara was a prolific and hugely successful singer and songwriter - primarily within pop/MPB - whose career spanned nine albums in the late 60's and 70's. He is also thought to be one of the most censored Brazilian artists and was exiled to London in the 1970's by the Brazilian dictatorship. 'Aquarela' is taken from his most experimental album 'Imyra, Tayra, Ipy' originally released in 1976 on Odeon.AA. Marisa Rossi - Deixa Eu Te AmarKiller uptempo psychedelic funk/soul track, highly sought after, originally released on Copaconana 7" in 1970. Marisa, and the backing track, sound very much like the wonderful 'Doris' whose album 'Did You Give The World Some Love Today Baby?' we have previously reissued. Rossi recorded an album arranged by the legendary Arthur Verocai.

Macumba/Baoba

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Our leading lady of the series, Claudia, is back once again, this time with double A side.'Macumba' is taken from one of her several self-titled LP’s, the one in question released in 1970 on Premier, Brazil. Sought after in its original form.Psychedelic, orchestral, MPB, exotica with hints of Bollywood! Horns strings and spaced out male vocals back Claudia's amazing lead. Highly unique.'Baoba' is taken from Claudia's all killer no filler Jesus Cristo LP, from Odeon released in 1971. Heavy on the strings and tough on the funk drums, before it breaks into a vocal jazz section, then back into the groove. Reminiscent of Swedish folk-funk singer Doris, whose album we reissued in the past.

Olhos Coloridos/Bons Tempo: Sao Paulo Edit tags

photo:
a propos:
'Olhos Coloridos' is an 80's MPB/boogie jam, thats sits perfectly alongside the likes of Maia, Valle, Jorge and Olivetti. Backed here, by some of the members from Banda Black Rio. Taken from her self-titled 1982 LP on RGE Brazil.'Bons Tempo Sao Paulo (Good Times)' was originally released on a rare promo only 7" from 1980, this is a Brazilian boogie version of Rapper's Delight / Good Times by Chic, voiced by radio DJs from Sao Paulo especially for the Christmas holiday season! The replayed version of 'Good Times' stands up to the Chic version, and the added cuica heavy percussion breakdown gives it the true Brazilian flavour.
