K. Frimpong & His Cubano Fiestas - Kyenkyen Bi Adi M'awuGhanian musician K. Frimpong. In the 1970s, he recorded with two different bands, Vis-A-Vis and Cubano Fiestas. 'Kyenkyen Bi Adi M'awu' fuses heavy afrobeat drums and horns with a highlife guitar line and is his most well known track. Taken from the legendary 'K. Frimpong & His Cubano Fiestas' LP released in 1977 on Continental Records out of Ghana.Licensed from Ofo brothers, a Ghanian independent. As sampled by Gnarls Barkley on his 'Storm Coming' track.Ebo Taylor - HeavenTaken from Ebo's self titled LP released on Esibons in 1977, original copies of which regularly fetches upwards of $500. Ebo still tours extensively with his incredible band, their performances come very highly recommended.

Mulatu is an Ethiopian born instrumentalist, composer and arranger extraordinaire. Schooled in the UK and then the USA, Mulatu fuses jazz, latin and traditional Ethiopian styles to create a unique sound, most commonly referred to as Ethio-jazz.Over the past decade years he has gained much exposure via the Ethiopiques series, a collaboration project with the Heliocentrics, and through the inclusion of 'Yegelle Tezeta' - featured here - in the soundtrack of Jim Jarmusch's film, 'Broken Flowers', starring Bill Murray.Yegele TezetaLow slung, mysterious organ led groover, with building, layered horns a sampled by Nas & Damian Marley on 'As We Enter' released in 2010.Originally appeared on the legendary 'Ethiopian Modern Instrumentals Hits' compilation album from Ethiopia in 1974, of which six out of ten tracks were by Mulatu. Typically Ethiopian horn line, about as classic as it gets.

Give Me The Dance

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
Super hot reissue of the in-demand original clear vinyl 12" version of 'Give Me A Dance' by Kym released on the small but collectable Baltimore label Award records. With its electro / proto house groove, it became an anthem on Chicago's WBMX in the early eighties and with a sexy vocal, killer synths and phat analogue b-line, this delicious slice of boogie goodness has recently found its way to the top of many a wants list since being championed by DJ Harvey. Superb!

We certainly have a soft spot and a proven track record here at All Ears for these kind of magical, mysterious morsels. Elaborate Hoax is a new side dish from two of the UK's best sonic chef's, which manages to upstage most main courses! A duo of the tastiest forgotten ingredients re-invented for modern palates...

Barumba/Morre O Burro, Fica O Homem

photo:
a propos:
We have released several of Brazilian jazz legend Dom Salvador's records on Mr Bongo. He worked with artists including as Elis Regina, Jorge Ben and Edu Lobo and led Salvador Trio, as well as releasing under his own name. Dom lives in New York and plays a Hotel piano bar daily. 'Barumba' is an uptempo funk-jazz monster with heavy drums and piano right from the off. Soaring horns add to the drama. Originally released on his self titled LP on CBS Brazil in 1974. 'Morre o burro, Fica o Homem' is the third Osmar Milito track to feature in our Brazil 45's series. A classic samba-rock track, funk drums fills and punchy horns underpin the MPB vocals, building in tempo slightly over the track. The song was originally written by Jorge Ben. Taken from his expensive and hard to find ‘Nem Paletó, Nem Gravata’ LP released on ATCO Brazil in 1973.
