Antypody EP

For the sixth release on People Must Jam, we headed to Poland to find two very special guys that make up Ptaki. 180g Vinyl - Strictly limited.Ptaki have been making ripples around the world for their unique approach to putting together a record or two and having just recently dropped their album Przelot those ripples have turned to waves. We are proud to announce their new record - Antypody that will possibly turn those waves tidal!Ptaki have delivered a wonderful varied EP with four different cuts.Kicking off with the crazy uptempo Hi-NRG disco cut Milosc after which the record moves into the more gorgeous Balearic territory of Termy. This blew us all away when we first heard it.On the flip Lotnik showcases some solid house roots before the EP ending on the porn sampling and rather brilliant Radio Roman. We are really stoked to have these boys on board for what we feel is going to be a very sought after record.

Mr Mendel's disco credentials have been growing steadily in stature over the last few years. Here the Dutch boogieman drops two killer jams for the Disco Deviance imprint. Both demonstrate his clean and tidy approach to editing which focuses on the quality of the original source material and a delicate desire to enhance and ease only the very best out of the music he loves so much. As such he owes much to his Chicago mentor and good friend Rahaan whose influence and sound can be detected in these reworks. This is of course a good thing. Enjoy the music! Mr Mendel does.

New York Edits 5

photo:
a propos:
Initially started as an excuse for Eric Duncan and friends to release pitched-down reworks of suitably cosmic jams, the New York Edits series has taken on a life of its own over the last 18 months. No doubt this fifth installment will become as in-demand as the previous installments, thanks in no small part to the suitably chugging chop-up of David Keaton's stoner disco fave "Gloria" on the flip. The NY Edits version is, predictably, even more baked, working the killer, organ-laced, clavinet-heavy groove for longer before introducing Keaton's half-whispered vocal. The A-side is more in keeping with the smacked-out feel of the series, with grandiose analogue synthesizer lines riding a delay-laden blue-eyed soul groove. Serious sleaze.

Beat Bop

REISSUE OF ULTRA-RARE 1983 HIP-HOP MASTERPIECE CO-PRODUCED & WITH ARTWORK BY THE LATE JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT RAMMELLZEE VS12” ON SPLIT BLACK & WHITE VINYL LIMITED TO 1983 COPIESThe original issue of the 1983 song “Beat Bop” by lyricists Rammellzee and K-Rob has been heard by many, but held by few. Only a reputed 500 of the song’s initial run, on Jean-Michel Basquiat’s one-off Tartown Records label, were made with jacket cover art by the infinitely influential graphic artist (and moonlighting musician and producer). They remain one of hip-hop’s “Holy Grail” items, selling north of $1,500 if you can even find one. The audio, which clocked in at over 10 minutes, was issued – with no picture sleeve – on Profile Records soon after the Tartown pressings, and went on to influence countless MCs, with its minimal, languishing funk beat (produced by Basquiat) and Rammellzee’s and K-Rob’s next-level lyricism. The picture sleeve version of the release has never been officially re-issued, and this edition, curated by hip-hop historian Noah Uman, goes the extra mile. It features officially-licensed original artwork from the Basquiat estate and a four-panel folded insert with deep background on the original single’s creation, compiled by Andrew “Noz” Nosnitsky – including interviews with many of the artists involved with its production: Rammellzee, K-Rob, Glenn O’Brien, percussionist Al Diaz, Profile’s Cory Robbins and more. Rammellzee left this Earth in 2010 and Basquiat passed away in 1988 – with this deluxe reissue, their important contributions to the formative years of hip-hop on wax are remembered and celebrated. A must-own for any hip-hop purist

Back Door (Gettin Down)

Limited 1-sided 12" RepressTom Noble teams up with Mystic Pleasure on this must have Superior Elevation 12" issued with the assistance of Peoples Potential Unlimited. If you were one of those that indulged in the Tom Noble edits of "Africa Bump" and "Party Together" for PPU back in 2009, then you know this combination of artist and label equates to dancefloor gold and will need little further wooing to indulge here (PPU have just repressed that 12" for those didn't btw). Everything Noble touches drips with disco authenticity and that's the case here with "Back Door (Gettin Down)" a sublime funk addled floor burner of the highest quality. One Sided and comes hand stamped with the PPU logo.

NYC house legend DJ Basil teams up with Ron Trent and creates "Are You House" a pure dance floor track on Ron's own Future Vision label. TIP! DJ Basil returns to the dance scene once again. Best remembered for his house classic "City Streets" (Nu Groove) as well as "All True African" and "Time To Be Free" (King Street Sounds), Basil adds a brand new gem to his catalog of music.

Kaytronik/Yoruba Soul Mixes

photo:
a propos:
Seven Davis Jr recruits two close friends and kindred spirits to rework cuts from his debut album Universes: house music titans Karizma (aka Kaytronik) and Osunlade (aka Yoruba Soul). Basement Boy Karizma takes on "Sunday Morning" delivering a high octane "Ruff Kut" dub and a choppier Baltimore Club tinged "Love Break" dub. On the flip, Osunlade gives "Welcome Back" his trademark exquisite touch.

Healin Feelin

Melbourne’s got it (goin’ on)! Returning back to the city we hauled in yet another producer. M5K fixes us up with three edgy House tracks together with smooth, synthesized melodies and a wicked kick.M5K has built up quite the resume, with releases on Melbourne recordlabels. Not just some new kid on the block, eh! Exactly the reason we’re excited to have him featured on Dopeness Galore. The A side will get the party started. ‘We Got It (Goin’ On)’ reels you in with the synthesized boogie and sci-fi sound effects the Melbourne sound is known for. The track steadily climaxes to a high-energy war of sounds, making you want to get on down by laying the track down with a double kick. Now, get ready for the flip side! We kept the artwork black, because this release just feels dirty. Just listen to how grimy the bass gets and let Shawty tell you why. The final and title track is layered with repeating chords over a groovy baseline. M5K really breaks it down with ‘Healin Feelin’.Sounds like Mike Dunn from Melbourne, if you like the edge of MD X-press you shouldn’t miss this!
