A Raw Excursion

auteur:

photo:
a propos:
The second release on the Excursions imprint, following on from 'A Soviet Disco Excursion Vol 1'; this time a trilogy of treats from French duo DJ Soulist and Fulgeance, aka Souleance. These guys have been busily producing a series of delectable releases for a decade now. Crafted primarily with the dancefloor in mind, Souleance weave together an assortment of grooves and genres to magnificent effect - disco, funk and beyond.'A Raw Excursion' proceeds to give you what you need, with something for all the family amidst this three-track EP. Setting it off, the heavily progged-out thump of 'The Ramble'; a solid mid-tempo floor-quaker, flipping the unmistakable weight of Jimmy Page and Bob Plant. This is followed by the 'C'est La Fête' edit of 'A Little More' - a cheeky flip of a classic late-seventies slow jam by Miss Brenda Russell, famously sampled by Big Pun. This one tried and tested over the past few years to crush a lot of dances, now available on wax for the first time for all you players out there.

Love For The Sake Of Love (Mike Maurro Mixes)

photo:
a propos:
Claudja Barry's cult "Love for the sake of love" gets Mike Maurro's magic remix treatment for the 7th release on Brookside Records. This is no ordinary edit or reworking though, Mike got his hands on the actual physical master tapes and turned in a refreshed, original mix of this sleazed out downtempo monster. Well known by underground Disco aficionados by it's inclusion on DJ Harvey's earth shattering and legendary "Sarcastic Study Masters" mix CD from 2001 this mid 70's Tom Moulton mixed number came out on Salsoul and caused quite a stir. This new mix really breathes new life into this stone cold classic, Mike utilises lots of alternative takes, vocal vamps and instrumentation from the original sessions giving us a version that's never been heard before! A completely new, original mix. If that doesn't get all you Disco fiends excited then something is seriously wrong! On the B-side Mike takes Claudia's "Sweet Dynamite" into a new realm too, again using the master tapes to full effect to create a new, refreshed version of one of her more popular jams, A raucous, slamming club cut. Also released in 1976 and mixed again by Tom Moulton, Mike Maurro's version extends everything in just the right way! His rearrangements and remixes are always respectfully executed and it's clear that Mike understands and feels the tracks he works on. Again, another cult Disco cut reworked beautifully for 2016, essential stuff for all lovers of this kind of music, this release is simply unmissable. The record comes in a full colour picture sleeve and these remixes are exclusive to this release and are fully, 100% legit, licensed and sanctioned by all relevant rights holders.Simply put, another set of essential mixes from a modern day master!

Danny Krivit Special Disco Edits Vol 2

photo:
a propos:
NYC Disco legend Danny Krivit returns to the editing block on behalf of seminal Miami Disco powerhouse TK Disco. With 45 years in the DJ game under his belt and having played endless gigs all over the world during that time it's safe to say Mr.K knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to the re-edit thing! With unprecedented access to TK's vaults Danny has been turning in some stellar reworkings as of late and the cuts included on this latest instalment keep the quality sky high!Peter Brown, a Chicago born singer, keyboard player and producer who had numerous hit singles and LP's (he also wrote Madonna's "Material Girl"!) was a popular Disco artist who harnessed his own original style merging his sweet singing style with synths and modern studio techniques. "For Your Love" listed from his 1977 debut LP "A Fantasy Love Affair" on TK's Drive imprint takes up side-A on this 12" and is treated to the DK edit magic. Danny gives us a subtle, respectful rework of this quirky LP cut, a synth driven midtempo number. Perfect for the early set or the late, late night encounters, sublime! On side-B we have a slightly more uptempo jam in the shape of legendary jazz organist Jimmy McGriff's "Tailgunner" - A groove that just won't stop! Here Danny gives us the break after some slight teasing, accompanied by McGriff's funky organ vamps the whole track is rearranged and slightly tougher than the original version. This edit is definitely for the dancers, it's got all the drums upfront and displays some serious hard funk! Again, on this volume both edits are of supreme high quality, not surprising in any way when we consider that one of the originators of the art-form is behind them!100% legit re-edits, remastered and released in conjunction with Henry Stone Music / TK Disco - Miami FL.

Danny Krivit Special Disco Edits Vol 2

photo:
a propos:
Legendary NYC DJ / editor Danny Krivit's story in contemporary dance music is a long and storied one. Danny's got to be one of the hardest working men behind the decks right now with an international rep and DJ schedule truly befitting of his time spent making us dance over the last 45 (!) years. It makes perfect sense then, that one of the most seminal Disco labels of all time would call upon Mr. K's sharp editing skills when reappraising some of the jams from their extensive catalogue. TK Disco is the label in question here and they've let Danny loose on a pair of dance-floor burners that all Disco heads will be familiar with.On side-A we have KC & The Sunshine Band's "Let It Go", an oft sampled uptempo funk number from 1975 that pleases both b-boys and disco dancers in equal amounts, widely recognised in the UK as the main sample from DJ Mink's "Hey, hey (Can you relate?)" and Scientists hardcore classic "The Exorcist". Here Danny extends the breaks, looping the funk just right and turning the track into a bonafide DJ weapon, you might even want to nab 2 copies for the extended, extended mix session! (If you're that way inclined!) Essential! On side-B is Gwen McCrae's midtempo heater "Move Me Baby" from 1974, a pre-Disco stepper featuring Gwen's legendary vocals over some sublime Casey and Finch production! Danny's edit is subtle and slightly tougher edged than the original, again extending and rearranging the track respectfully. This one has the dancers firmly planted in it's mind and will sound awesome pumping out of any decent soundsystem! Both edits are masterfully executed, which is stating the obvious considering who's behind them!100% legit re-edits, remastered and released in conjunction with Henry Stone Music / TK Disco - Miami FL.
